will it hurt?
« on: March 26, 2009, 04:31:38 PM »
hello y'all.

i was just thinking if anyone can help me with my concern. i resprung my sp01 to a 11 lb recoil spring and to a 13 lb main spring which works well for 115 gr fmj WWB at the range. it also works for the federal hydra shocks 124 gr jhp which i now load for home defense.

will it hurt my sp01 if i use 124 gr +P ammo (winchester supreme) for home defense but will also need to practice on the range with the same +P to get the hang of it?

do i need to change the recoil spring to use the +P?

i will appreciate all info re this concern. i just want to make sure i don't hurt one of my cz's. ;)

thanks!

Just curious CZ....what problems were you experencing with factory ammo that caused you to change out the springs?  My SP-01 Tactical has been pretty flawless with whatever ammo, including my lighter reloads, that I chose to put in the magazine. I am however always willing to do preventive maintenance where indicated.

randyp,
the reason why i changed the springs for factory ammo is that the brass was dribbling out from my sp01 and landing on my right arm. someone from this forum recommended the spring change to 11 lb RS & 13 lb MS. as a result of the change, i had more positive ejection of the brass.

Won't hurt it at all.  I used to run a STI Edge with a 9 pound spring in 40.  The lighter the recoil spring, the easier the front sight is to track up and down.

Thanks, mine has not done that with WWB so I was simply curious.

Not disputing this, but could you please explain why a lighter recoil spring reduces muzzle jump?
Lighter spring = greater slide velocity on the rearward stroke but lesser velocity on the return. The return momentum is what returns the sights to the target, no?
