The PHANTOM Strikes! Combat Handguns
« on: March 28, 2009, 07:50:35 PM »
My favorite gun magazine and the CZexy PHANTOM!

A decent article on what is rapidly becoming a must have CZ pistol!

I could see a PHANTOM replacing my aging CZ75s, in a few years.

I just can't get into the Phantom for some reason.  I became a CZ fan because of their metal guns.  If I go polymer, it won't be a Phantom.  Probably a Glock.

The author of the article in Combat Handguns summed up the phantom: "Hyper accurate lightweight powerhouse with quality and workmanship of guns almost twice the price!"  And I couldn't agree more.  Here's the link to a teaser of the article.   http://www.tactical-life.com/online/combat-handguns/cz-usa-sp-01-phantom-9mm/

Put a manual thumb safety on it and i'd be very interested. Like the author of the story in Combat Handguns I have trouble with the decocker.

I don't have a problem with the polymer.  It's the decocker lever that turns me off.  That's why I sprung for the P-07 because I get the manual safety with it.  Just my .02,  Dusty10  8)

The whole reason I bought a CZ was to get away from Poly guns. I have had the frames of a GLOCK 23 and Grendal .380 come apart in my hands. It does not feel good. I am sure it is a fine gun to carry, but I am over plastic. My .02.

I'm hoping the Phantom will show the public how much better it is than a Glock.

I got to hold one and dry fire the Phantom at my local gun shop and was impressed.

I'm curious if there will be an attempt by CZ to put the Omega trigger system in the Phantom, that would be an ideal combination.

Put a manual safety & a meatier slide (hard to rack & get a good grip along the front of the slide with the current design) similar to SP01 or SA. Then I'll buy one.

Cheers, Ando.

The front and mid sections of the slide are narrowed and lightened (cutting down on bulk), but the rear is full width.  This actually makes it much easier to grasp and rack, with a rear grab on the slide.  For a full size service pistol, it is surprisingly light weight.  It is not designed to be racked with a front slide grab.  I find CZ decockers safe and reassuring.  I especially like the CZ decocker as it drops to halfcock under control.  It does make it harder to detail strip and get to the action/sear.  The Phantom sear mech is contained in a metal housing insert that also serves as the rear rails for the slide.  There is also a front rail insert at the slide stop area.  The rear insert/sear mech is pinned in place.  I have not tried to remove it.  My Phantom had a terrible creepy single aqction trigger.  I improved it with an "in situ" sear hone.
