SP-01 headed back for some warranty work
« on: March 30, 2009, 05:03:05 PM »
There is a finish issue on my new Tactical. In fairness it was there when I bought it and I had already pre-cleared that the good folks back at KC,KS would make thing right under new pistol warranty.

But just for info purposes, here it what it looked like :

It appears to me like there was a blob of gunk of the frame when they applied the finish coat. Needless to say the QC folks in the Czech Republic probably should have caught this before it made it into the supply chain.

Air Freight should have it there by tomorrow morning (and for $45 of my cash money they sure better- LOL ) and then the countdown for service time will begin. Here's hoping it won't take too long. The tech I spoke with said it was possible they might just simply replace the frame with a new one. We shall see.

I had been ogling this particular SP01 at my LGS for many months. Everyone else saw the flaw and took a pass on the purchase so there it sat on the shelf till last month when it came home with me. I don't know what the deformity is other than it is as hard as a rock and does not alter the excellent handling and accuracy of this pistol.

YAY! The pistol was delivered to the mothership in Kansas about a 1/2 hour ago......can you tell I am NOT comfortable trusting my firearms to a common carrier?  ;D

RandyP I hope your LGS reimburses you for the $45.00 it cost you to send your SP-01 back to CZ-USA. The bubble looks almost like a rust bubble. What was the manufacturing year for your SP-01? I'm glad that CZ is taking care of the problem for you.

Randy, the polycoat finish on your gun near the blister almost looks like it was brushed on.

Don't have the manufacture year handy here at work.

I can't say if the streaks are in the finish or are just the way the camera may have caught an oil film I didn't fully wipe off?

Either way, yes to me it looks like they applied the finish over a blob of some contaminant, rust, clump of dirt?

To put the satisfying ending on my tale, I had the new pistol out at the range yesterday morning. 200 rounds of my reloads were easily digested without a hiccup. Then the Kadet adapter was installed (it fits even better on this pistol) and 150 rounds of Federal copper clad bulk .22LR went sailing down range.

Happy is as happy does. I do like this handgun.
