13# main spring in the Shadow

HI

Have anyone of you installed a 13# main spring on your Shadow?  If so did it light up Win primers?  Save me a trip to the range tonite as I have IPSC in the morning.

FWIW I had the 13# lb in my 75 SA and had a couple of FTF with WWB. I went to the 16# and have not had a problem with anything.

13lb with Federal Small Pistol Primers only.

15lb+ for all other primers.

Stick with the 15lb for reliability, cos that's what this game is all about.

every 13# spring I have used sets off Federal and Winchester..SP01 and 75B guns.
I actually run a 13# clipped two coils..tweak the FP spring and can run Fed, WIN and CCI primers with that setup.

Thanks Stuart, that is good to know.  I am going out today to see where my three guns stand now with 13# springs in them.  If they each run a box of Win Primers I'll call it good.  Going with a 11# recoil spring in my Shadow cuz I only shoot lead through it at PF of 130ish.  Right now the factory spring just kind of tosses the brass at my feet.  In the heat of competition anything resembling a weak wrist and I could get a jam.  Not that it would effect my score.  Guys time me with an hour glass not a timer but it would be embarassing if someone hauled out a calendar.

Well Stuart was bang on as I expected.  Shadow and 85C ran like a clock with the 13# spring and Winchester primers.

Apologies for the slight thread drift, but i have a question on mainsprings:

I've been running my SP01 Custom Shop with the original mainspring for almost 2 years (>10,000 rounds), and in the past 2 weeks, I've had 2 (apparently) light strikes with WWB. I don't recall what the original mainspring weight was, but do you think my mainspring needs to be replaced?
Or can I get away with tweaking the FP (firing pin, right?) spring? And what exactly does tweaking the FP spring involve?

Neil, you may want to start with a good cleanout of both the firing pin and the hammer related areas.   Any buildup of sticky grunge in either case can cause drag on the hammer or FP and may reduce the impact speed of the FP to something low enough to cause a light strike.  This is the sort of thing you won't feel by hand but at the speeds the hammer and FP move some greasy/grungy buildup can cause a viscous drag that slows down the hammer speed so it's not the nice fast snap it should be.
