Phantom magazines and 26 round magazine!
« on: May 02, 2009, 01:29:04 AM »
The 26 round magazine came today.  Very very cool!  Sure enough, 26 rounds goes in the mag.  So 26+1!  It sure would be nice for a fully automatic CZ 75.  I can get both my hands around it.  The bottom end is a natural rubber.  I would prefer plastic, but the magazine probably wouldn't be so affordable if it were.  303 Aerospace plastic and rubber cleaner gives the rubber a plastic look and feel.

The magazine looks like two Mecgar mags brazed together.  The dimensions of the mecgar magazine changes throughout the length of the magazine.  This means that there are some tight spots where it won't fall free upon release.

I also had to dremel out a spot on the rubber for the lanyard loop.

I modified a 16 rd magazine to accommodate 17 rds (17+1).  I don't know if anyone has done this before.  It looked like it was possible so I butchered one of the 16 rd mags to see if it would work.  I lowered the indents on the side of the magazine by cutting beveled openings to allow the bullet to sit lower.  I trimmed a few millimeters off the bottom of the follower.  It seems to work.  I haven't taken it to the range yet.  I also put a rubberized base on it from Angus' website.  Of the four magazines seen on the left, the 17 rnd mag is on the right.  The hole for the 17th rd is visible.

nice job..

when I shot a P9, I had all the indents on my mags milled out to increase capacity. you can also shorten the legs of the follower a little bit to get some more room too.

Thanks!  I did shorten the legs of the follower a bit.  Maybe 2 mm up front and 4-5 mm in the back.  The spring puts up a fight on the 17th rd.  removing more off the legs of the follower may make more room for the spring to squirm around.

what you want to avoid is shortening too much that it gives the follower room to roll to the side. this will cause the follower to stick in the tube, etc.

you can also get some room by shortening the mag spring, but shorten by a coil at time. this is all trial and error.

eerw,

It worked.  removing two coils did the trick.  Number 17 goes in without a fuss.

So why aren't they like that from the factory?
