SP-01 for competition. Have ?'s
« on: May 03, 2009, 06:55:28 PM »
I currently shoot an FN-P-9 for production class in IPSC and IDPA. I am wanting to get a new gun as I am competing often times against limited class shooters (a couple of the clubs I shoot in lump us all together in the overall rankings). I am getting my tail whipped, but almost always just because of the use of limited guns. I usually wipe the floor with the production users.

I am looking at either the CZ 75 B or an SP-01.

My questions for SP-01 users are:

1. Is the mag a dropping mag. Meaning will the mag drop freely when the mag release is pressed? I know this is more of a tactical pistol and I want a dropping mag when the mag release is pressed

2. Is the mag release button ambi compatible. I shoot right handed, but prefer my mag release on the right side of the gun so I can hit the mag release button with my trigger finger.

3. Is this gun able to be easily modded with over-sized safeties, over-sized mag releases?

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Depends on what "over-sized" means.  There are two sizes of safeties and mag releases available for SP01s.  The Shadow comes with the larger (extended) size of each.

Cool thank you so much for answering my questions. And by oversize I meant exactly as you expected. The larger size mag release and safety.

Thanks.

Sounds like I will be purchasing an SP-01 very soon!

i would check out the sp-01 shadow, it meets all you requirements including the enlarged safety.
it also has a better standard trigger for competition and can be made even better with the competition hammer and lighter main (hammer) spring.
this will give you a nice smooth DA and a fantistic light SA trigger.
has much better sights also.

I was looking at the shadow, but just can't afford the 800 being a graduate student. I am going to save up some cash though and hopefully in July I can afford at the least an SP-01 and 3 extra 19 round mags. If I have the cash for the shadow I will be picking it up for sure!
