Shadow sights
« on: May 21, 2009, 11:41:19 PM »
Exactly what is the difference between the stock Shadow sights and the competition sights set from Angus?

Also, I like my point of impact to be at the top edge of the front sight (NOT behind the dot).  Is that the way the competition sight set is?  And how about the standard Shadow sight set?

Why do I want/need the competition sight set rather than the stock Shadow sight set?

They are basically the same sight set up.  POI will depend on the ammo, distance and the particular pistol.  Different front sight heights are available to help tailor the POI to your liking.

POI will depend on the ammo to some extent but for my part having tried a lot of different brand 115gn ammo I found it to be consistent.

Your desire to have the POI coincide with the flush top of the front sight is how the guns are set up as they come.  When I aim I use the top of the front sight to split the bullseye dot and, assuming I do my part, it puts the bullet right at the middle of the bullseye.  What I get in reality is a bit of a cloud around the bullseye but that's me.  The groups are centered properly based on this top of the front sight practice just as you described.

"Your desire to have the POI coincide with the flush top of the front sight is how the guns are set up as they come"  Thanks BCRider, that's one thing I needed to know!

"They are basically the same sight set up" Thanks double pedro, but from what I've been able to find out so far, it REALLY seems that they are not exactly the same. . .  just trying to find out what the exact differences are.  I'm hoping someone can tell me. . .  I am assuming that the rear is smaller on the stock shadow sights than on the competition sights, and that the front may be different just to match-up height-wise with the different rear.

Is it worth the extra $130 or so to order it with the competition sights???  What's the real difference between the two?  Thanks for your time and effort guys!   :)

My Shadow is set for the FO front to sit at the bottom of the notch.  If I shoot at 25 yards with sight set flush with the top of the notch the gun shoots about 4" high.  At shorter dustances shooting IDPA it doesn't make much of a difference but at longer ranges it sure does.

Canuck, what ammo are you shooting through yours?  Your results are totally counter to my own as noted in my own reply.  And the Shadow that I got to borrow and shoot about 100 rounds through before I got my own was the same as mine as for sight alignment to POI.

I shoot lead reloads with a PF of 130 - 135.  doesn't male any difference if I use factory 124/125 gr bullets either.  Remington, Winchester all shoot the same.  My gun goes about 4" high at 25 yards if I set the front sight flush with the top of the rear.  No big deal I just got used to it.  Only time it really makes me bear down is when I am shooting small square plates at 15 yards.  I have to aim low on the steel or I go over top of them if I aim center and happen to rise a bit at let off.
