Looking for information on Armscor's "Map" pistol
« on: May 24, 2009, 03:05:26 PM »
Can anyone help shed some light on Armscor's "Map" pistol?

As stated by Armscor, it is a Tanfoglio (Polymer), but they seem to know nothing else about it when it comes to possible conversion kits and parts for it. Armscor assembles these as "kits" from Tanfoglio as it seems that Tanfoglio may also have some kind of similar reciprocating arrangement for Armscor's 1911 weapons.

EAA claims zero compatibility with the Armscor model, but then EAA seems to go out of their way with the "large" versus "small" frame thing and seems to be "content" with the resulting confusion there.

As you can see from the included email thread, Armscor is useless here, but they claim a lifetime warranty on their weapons in the US. This thread however makes me wonder, if that is solely limited to just weapons that they actually manufacturer.

Thanks for any information on this.

I wish I had more info for you, We do not import very many of these pistols
maybe 200 per year, They are kind of an after thought. I am not up to speed
on them.

Wow! It took a whole week to go from -

"It is a Tanfolgio."

to -

"We cannot warranty the conversion kits; sorry I have never seen a
conversion kit for this pistol"

I guess Armscor is not interested in supporting this weapon. I apologize for
the wasted time and efforts. I guess all the postings about the "great
Armscor support" from others is limited strictly to your 1911 products.
That's too bad...

So is there an Armscor warranty position with conversion kits and barrels?
Do you know of any source that may know?

Ivan,

Since the MAP is a Tanfolgio, but Armscor does not offer conversion kits,
which specific conversion kits are compatible and will not void the
Armscor warranty? I have looked across the Internet and have not been able
to even find any resemblance of this information. If I can have
this answered, then I am ready to make my purchase decision. Thank you.

The Armscor Tanfoglio Pistols are small frame Tanfoglio Pistols and should be convertible between 9mm and .40 Caliber with small frame conversion kits.

Armscor only markets 9mm versions and is apparently not interested in producing or servicing other calibered versions.

I rather fancy the Full Size Steel (MAP) versions, but the Polymer framed versions (MAPP) should also be nice.

Centerfire Systems has been a distributor for them, but is now out of stock.

Thank you jwc007,

So EAA's response of no compatibility is just rubbish?

Hello, I would like to know if your conversion kits and barrels will work with a MAPP1 in 9 mm as well as the availability. Thank you.

You are most Welcome!

So EAA's response of no compatibility is just rubbish?

Most Likely, yes.  Could also be that they no longer wish to stock conversion kits for the Small Frame Pistols and have no intentions of supporting Tanfoglio Pistols imported by other sources.  Since this is a potential source of revenue, this is provincial thinking at best.

Are there any other possible sources besides EAA in the US for kits and parts?

For some parts, Numrich Arms (Gun Parts Corp) sometimes has them.

As for kits, only EAA, so far.

Bummer!

It looks like a very nice weapon, but between EAA and Armscors it almost seems like CZ-USA all over again (non-responsive, lukewarm support at best, etc.)... I like my CZ a lot, but I don't like CZ-USA!

Have had that experience with H&K and S&W.  I've actually had better service on parts from EAA and Taurus.  Were I ordering parts from EAA for an Armscor Tanfoglio Pistol, I probably just wouldn't tell them it was for an Armscor Pistol.  ;)

EAA seems to go out of their way to put up a lot of weird roadblocks...

Allow me to put a different spin on this.  I have had more problems with EAA not shipping the correct part than anyone I have done business with.  One time they sent me the wrong part three times before I received the correct one.  So just may be this is an honest attempt to get it right. Lord knows they do need to work on this.  R S

It seems like Tanfoglio has a unique product to offer, unfortunately it don't appear they have the right distributors representing them in the US. I guess it is not as bad as having your own US branch/folks directly hosing up the market (e.g. CZ-USA).

Thank you all for the collective information. It unfortunately reinforces what I have been experiencing between EAA and Armscor. It's just too bad! It would have been a nice weapon to have.

It is a shame. Tanfoglio has so much potential to offer, but doesn't seem to care. The trigger reach in DA is shorter than the CZs', their wonderfinish is as good as hard chrome, they offer a 10MM, and their Elite Series do offer features that are wanted by competition shooters.  ???

We would have perfect guns and perfect dealers, and the US Capital would be turned into a shopping mall.

Here if you want the Great Gun backed by a Great Company with Great Customer Service, buy a Kimber, Sig or H&K.

Or if you want a gun that will last a lifetime, shoots accurately, is reliable. and cost 1/2 as much as the above mention guns........Then there is the Witness and EAA.

I love my Kimbers, Sigs,  HK and I love my Witness's.  If I run into an occasional pothole down the road of life with EAA, well I can deal with it.   Small price to pay for such a great gun.  Love Paul of EAA or hate him you must agree that he has put together an outstanding firearm system which has no equal.   An Old Dog has spoken.   R S
