3 dot Tritium sights on new SP01...stay or go?
« on: August 13, 2009, 05:58:37 PM »
I just picked up a new SP01 with the factory tritium 3 dot sights and I can't decide if I should keep them so I am looking for other peoples opinions who have also shot with the fiber optic front and competition rear which I already have on my CZ75 and CZ97.

I am going to send the gun to Angus for the comp. hammer and trigger job like on my other 2 but I am on the fence about the sights.

Let the feedback flow....

Most of my last purchases, whether they be Sigs, S&Ws or CZs have been night-sighted guns.  It just provides another option.

I would have Angus install the Shadow sights.  Approx. $126 with tax.
9mm's can expand but .45's dont shrink.

I don't know if I'd mill the slide for the Shadows, but the normal tactical rear/FO front is pretty good.

I personally wasn't a fan of the Meps.  Just didn't care for the sight picture.  The fixed setup I want is a Heinie rear, widened to about 1.4, and the 1.0 FO front.

Forget the cost, why?  Have you shot with both types?  I love the FO front and comp rear on my other 2 CZ's and I don't mind the 3 dot night sights but maybe I need to shoot more with both types to decide if my 3rd CZ should be like my other 2?

I still have the stock sights on the Kadet kit which is essentially a post front with LPA rear and 3 dots and I find that gun to be super accurate...which is part of why I am having a hard time making up my mind...

I think this is a personal preference so go with what gives you the best sight picture. Having said that, I prefer the tactical rear sight (CZ-Custom) over the stock sights. I also replaced the front sight with a standard dot sight that I painted bright white. I love the FO sights, but the range I go to is too dim and the dot disappears so I prefer a simple white dot. Real easy to pick up in all conditions for me.

The stock tritium sights are pretty dim unless it is fairly dark and since I don't really shoot under these conditions so night sights just weren't useful to me. YMMV depending on what you plan on using your SP01 for. Its a great pistol ... I am completely smitten with mine :)

I don't really care care about the tritium part since these are range toys for me.  It is more about the 3 dot sight picture and how it differs from the sight picture I have come to know and expect on my other 2 CZ's.  I also believe that you have to overcome the fear of the unfamiliar and learn to work well with the tools you have at hand...unless you have the ability to spec your tools  ;)

That being said, I don't use my CZ's as primary home defense guns so mods are not an issue.
