anybody ccw his SP-01 Shadow?
« on: August 17, 2009, 08:42:32 PM »
I'm considering getting a SP-01 Shadow that can be used as a carry gun as well as IPSC. However, am concerned about the lack of a firing pin block -- I carry condition 1 (cocked and locked).  All my other pistols (inc CZ 83, Tanfoglios and 1911s) get carried that way, but they all have a firing pin block. What are your opinions?  Thanks for reading.

Hey rr.

I bought my SP-01 tactical for CCW.  I know it's not the most compact CZ but I still chose it as my main CCW.  It's also my first gun.  ;)  Plus, I could use it for sport if I decide to pursue competing.

Hope this helps.

I am just curious why you would want to carry a DA/SA pistol with no FPB that way...do you live in a war zone?

I've always carried cocked and locked, my CZ 83s, CZ Clones, and the 1911s -- so I guess it's a question of habit. But my concern was/is the Shadow not having a FPB...

I am just curious, but what is the difference between carrying a pistol without a firing pin block and a Series 70 1911?

I might be wrong, but series 70 1911s don't have a FPB.

This is kinda my point.  There is no difference between a Series 70 1911 and an SP-01 with no FPB.

Thanks for replying, Spencer.  But yes, there is a difference: on my 1911s, I get the grip safety -- BTW, I'm just playing devil's advocate here: I'd like to CCW a Shadow in cond 1, and would like to know if anybody's doing the same.

Thanks wellingj for your reply. That's the same as the half-cock notch, right?  So it still requires almost a double action pull? Does the Shadow allow for the safety to be engaged in that position?

If you prefer and comfortable with FPB but same flatform, you will have to consider the plain SPO1 and probably just upgrade the sights and trigger worked out

Just curious, what kind of holsters are you guys using? I can only find Blade-tech thigh holster for the SP-01 and that is a tactical holster, not a CCW one

I use a Highnoon Tailgunner.

As for the trigger pull, almost a DA but it's a little quicker. I don't use the safety that much unless it's in IDPA in the ESP division. I use DA/SA in USPSA production and thats mostly what I practice for, so the DA trigger pull doesn't bother me.
