vz58 options...what should I do?
« on: November 15, 2009, 11:55:53 AM »
I would like to have a real nice example of an original looking vz58. It would be more of a conversational/show piece than a shooter, but I would like something that is accurate if fired. I think I have covered all my options but not sure. Here goes:

1. Buy a parts kit, receiver, etc. and find someone with the 'know-how' to build it right. I just don't like kits though.
2. Buy a vz58 from Czechpoint like Voltas as seen in the topic below and figure out how to get a bayonet lug on it.
3. Or just wait and see if anything materializes in the future.

I love the ones from Czechpoint, you just can't go wrong with one of their rifles. The vz's they sell are built right, look perfect, and basically brand new (I know, I have one). Oh, not to mention the absolute top notch customer service! Thank you Dan! Only thing, no bayonet lug and no correct markings (I like the she## with the crossed bayonets). I can live without the markings but it's tough to live without the bayonet lug. The vz looks beautiful with the nice matching bayonet attached.

I could have a build done with a kit but finding someone who can do it right is the trick. It would cost as much as a Czechpoint vz as well. Like I said, I don't like kits because the accuracy of the ones I've seen are not up to par with the D-Technik built rifles. Finding a nice kit is difficult and pricey and I'm not yet comfortable with the receivers being made in the US.

Right now I'm leaning toward buying a vz from Czechpoint, grey with the muzzlebrake, and a spare front sight base or barrel (has bayonet lug). That way I know what I'm getting. Still, I would have to have new parts put on which means repainting would be a factor.

vz58 wish list:
1. Original grey color.
2. Bayonet lug.
3. Original type muzzlebreak.
4. Correct markings would be nice.
5. 7.62x39 a must.

Anyone have any other options/ideas would really be appreciated.

Eric.

If you are really competant at building rifles, I think Czechpoint sells recievers, too. As for absoltely correct markings, unless you can find one imported as an NFA rifle before the cutoff, they will all be slightly off. Hey, with Czechpoint, you don't have to contend with Century's horrible "billboard" they aser engrave on everything! Not to mention Century's horrible rifles...
I think you can get an aftermarket muzzle break with bayonet lug, if you need the pigsticker, which is OK, I like the one my Enfield has. 8)
Me being the non mechanically inclined, would definately stay with the Czechpoint product.

I would build on one of the d-tech receivers, but hey that's just me.

I would love to do a build myself but I don't have the correct tools to do so. Also, I've read how difficult it is to pull/press the barrels out/into the receivers. I'm also afraid that I would bend the barrel trying to press it in. Painting the rifle correctly would be an issue for me as well.

At this point, already having two vz58's, I think I'm going to wait until something becomes available in the future. I would just really like to have a vz58 to attach by bayonets to. With the bakelite on the stock/grips/bayonet all matching, the vz is simply stunning. I think I'm going to just hope that the laws continue to stay the same and keep an eye on what Dan@Czechpoint has to offer.

i was hoping to see what option for the bayonet was available to, and if i can just have a competent gunsmith unattach the muzzle break plug weld remove old non lug site base and attach new one and re plug weld the muzzle break on, then id be a happy camper. I still love threaded barrels but i can live with out if i have to, all this for an inch off damit. if we could get a paint code or a small amount of paint to match up the color wed be set, or just get a better paint job like duracoat

Realizing Czechpoint is a good source for VZ58s it's easy to forget that CZ sells the VZ58 Military Sporter with the D-Technik milled receiver as well. With CZ you'll not have a bayonet lug option. I purchased a CZ rifle and have been extremely pleased with it. It has the original gray paint. It is good to know there is more than one way to secure a well made VZ58. I have since installed the Zahal M4 stock with the recoil buffer and a Zahal pistol grip. I haven't installed the Zahal forearm yet.

Do you have any pictures of your rifle sounds pretty cool, i havint seen many of the grey ones. Are you able to use any m4 stock with the adapter? or just the one that comes with it. Yes they are great rifles, i feel that they are my only choice for a 7.62x39 rifle. Light, reliable, high capacity, accurate, light recoil, and many accessories coming to market. only thing ak has is being reliable and have accessories, but i rather trade a little of that and lose weight and gain accuracy anyday.

Yes, CZ-USA sells Vz58's as well but they buy them from Dan @ Czechpoint and mark up the price.

CZ-USA = $1015.00 USD
Czechpoint = $850.00 USD

Buy direct and save $$$.

Either company is a top flight outfit, and I deal with them both all the time.

I purchased from a CZ dealer for about the same price as Czechpoint is getting. At the time I purchased my VZ58 I wasn't familiar with Czechpoint. Either way the VZ58 is a great rifle. I've never paid MSRP for any weapon, which for the VZ58 is $1050. Czechpoint has good product at a competitive price. Their trump card is the variety of configurations they offer.
