Bushnell Elite 3200 2-6x32 Hand Gun Scope
« on: November 21, 2009, 06:11:51 PM »
Hi,

I ask myself if that scope could be efficient on the front guard of our VZ58:

Bushnell Elite 3200 2-6x32 Hand Gun Scope with long eye relief.

I dont'want to make holes and rivet a rail on  my VZ58 to add a side mount, probably the shell deflector would be necessary to use a rifle scope.

I saw some  pics and for me, it's not very esthetic and  quite complicated.

The red dot is perfect on the front guard but what do you think about that handgun scope for a 220 Yards Shot ?

I would say a handgun scope would do fine for a 220 yard + shot considering many do it with open sights or with a red dot.  The question is your ability.  Have you tried it with your open sights?  With a little practice it wouldn't be hard.

If you really serious about shooting productively at 200+ meter distances - get yourself a bolt action rifle, chambered for at least .308 Winchester...or,if 7.62x39 is your favourite round - try SKS: with rear-mounted low-magnification scopes these rifles have gained some inglorious fame in both Chechen campaigns with confirmed shots at 150-200 meters. Not to mention that a sporterized semiauto version of assault rifle (meaning Sa VZ.58) is as far from a Dedicated Marksman Rifle as it could be! All those fairy tales about successfull and precise target shooting from AK-based clones at distances from 250 to 400(!!),meters, especially with IRON SIGHTS, are nonsence! I'm shooting centerfire rifles for more then 15 years and never yet seen a single individual with AK or other Kalashnikov round hurdler even hitting a target on 200-300 yards range! BTW, do yourself a favour: try not to mount anything optical longer then 4" on a front handguard of your VZ - it is not safe AND it looks ridiculous! As Russians says:"Do not mount a saddle on a cow"... :D A propos: I totally support your position not to vandalize a Vz.58 reciever with a rear side mount...based on my personal modest combat experience it belongs only to a long-barrelled SAW's like various RPK platforms. Everything is good when taken in limitations, including firearms LEGOization... unfortunately, the latter cannot be stopped, just like the iPhone adddiction ;D :D

Actually, the vz-58 is capable of better accuracy than most AKs, especially the cheapo Romaks we keep seeing. I haven't had a chance to shoot at 300 yards with mine, but it certainly does well at 100 yards. Next time I have a shooting buddy to watch the gear, I'll try it on the 250 yard range, longest one we have. No scope, just an EOTech.
If I wanted a truely precise bolt gun in 7.62x39mm, the CZ527 carbine is outstanding, and far better than an SKS - I have had three of those, and never met one that could group better than any of the AKs I have owned, two WASRs and a Hungarian.

I have shot my VZ-58 on my local range at 300yd using a IDPA target and consistantly hit the target. No flyers. I will try to take a video or pictures and post next time.
