parts availability for pre-B
« on: October 17, 2002, 10:50:40 PM »
From reading previous posts on thefiringline.com there is a small part that can get lost on the pre-B's and is not available any longer from CZ.  Can anyone give me anymore details?  Which part is it?  I seem to remember it being a flat spring of some sort.  Can't find the original post.

Are there any other parts that are not interchangeable and are hard to come by?

Now seriously considering a pre-B at a local shop.  They want $399, but I believe that is too high.  There is some cosmetic damage.  Also will current grips fit the pre-B's?

Is the quality of the new pistols better than the old ones with regard to fit and finish?  They are using more modern manufacturing now.

I like having the option of SA locked and DA, but the 75BD can be found new pretty cheap right now, so I am really torn....  Can't afford both.

...but I'll give it a shot.  Grips are 100% compatible.  I have a poly pre-B, and the poly is certainly better these days.  Many parts are identical or so close it's academic.  Major differences would relate to the firing pin system.  The firing pin block is what makes a 75B different from a mechanical standpoint.  There are some external differences, but these are generally superficial.

I have a "transitional," so I may be the wrong person to be commenting.  A "transitional" is well on its way to being a B!

Interesting.

I've been a reader and regular participant on TFL for years, and don't remember that message chain.  (And since I have a pre-B I would be paying attention.)

I just did a lengthy search of "parts" and "CZ-75" there, as well, and found nothing.

I know of no problems with parts availability -- primarily because I haven't heard of any parts failures with the pre-B guns.  (Not to say they don't have them; just to say there are so few floating around, and so few problems, we just don't hear of shortages, etc.)

As FEG notes, many of the parts are interchangeable.  And with the few that aren't -- hammers, for example, and some slide stops -- the newer versions will typically work in the older guns, but not vice versa.  Witness parts may also work for some things.

You've asked a good question -- and I don't think we have an answer, yet.

Hello.  It's likely the thumb safety detent and spring.  I'd searched everywhere and contacted Mike at CZ-USA.  He had some.  You might check with him.

Best.

Yes,  I think the thread on TFL was on the safety detent and plunger.  I don't actually need one, since I haven't bought the gun.  I was more worried that it was an easily lost part and that I wouldn't be able to get one at some point in the future.  If it is not likely to get worn out I won't worry about it.  Is there a trick to taking the gun apart and not losing this piece?

I think I will make them an offer on the pre-B.  I would add new grips and at some point probably bead blast the gun and have it refinished with something other than the cheesy black paint it has on it right now.

Somewhere on this "board" there is a very informative message explaining how to remove the safety on a Pre-B.  You need to find and read it, 'cause done wrong, getting it back together can be a problem.

Its really simple, involving the use of a paper clip, etc.  But check it out with a search.
