OH NO IT HAS STARTED: modified the trigger pin tonight:)
« on: March 22, 2010, 04:40:09 AM »
so i picked up my new to me SP01 last tuesday and the first thing i did was put 200 rounds through it and then proceded home and took it all apart. I did the trigger job and polished everything up but when it came to removing the trigger to get to the small groves on the bottom of the trigger bars/cage the pin was really hard to remove and reinsert. I figured there had to be a way to make a pin that would work better and not have me banging on the side of the gun to flare the pin everytime.

so I got some stainless steel rod and cut it to the same size as the original pin, next i made a small groove in the new pin, reinserted it in the right place and clipped on a E-Clip in the trigger group inside the frame. I had seen a post somewhere from awhile ago where someone had done something simalar but used 2 littl clips but figured that was overkill as the one i did tonight sits between the trigger return spring and the frame of the actual trigger. so far so good but ill find out how durable it is later this week when i go practice for an upcoming IDPA match this weekend.

I was thinking of packaging some of these things up if it works out. is there any interest in this sort of thing or are people happy with the other pin alternatives out there?

Im working on building 4 or 5 more pins that i can have people test tonight, ill take pics of one before it goes into the gun as it is hard to see exactly what it is after it's in.

Sounds like a really good idea. I'd think the e-clip would hold just fine.

ok so i took some pictures and tried to get some good images without having to take the whole gun apart again but if anyone has any questions or suggestions let me know.

here is a shot of the inside of the frame where the trigger group sits:

a closer look of the trigger group and you can make out where the e clip is sitting to the right of the spring, I had though about putting one on each side of the spring but it isn't needed:

and last but not least the old pin on the left and the new pin on the right. the grove for the clip hasn't been cut on this pin yet:

so around 500 rounds today at practice and the pin didnt move at all and everything seems to be good. ill take it apart tonight and measure the grove to make sure it's not being cut deeper or anything funny is happening and then ill offer them up here for you guys.
my only question is will i be allowed to offer them up for sale here? I know some forums im on they want me to be a sponser or to pay fee's but as it is im a disabled stay at home dad, there's barely any money coming in as it is and i cant afford to be a sponser at a forum. I am willing to send the owner or whoever is in charge some decals they can sell to make the forum some money as that is what i normally do, decals banners and signs.

thanks again

another 300 hundred today and all is well, I plan on making about 20 on Monday to sell. I actually have an idea about using some titanium rod instead of stainless steel to get the weight down. I know the difference wont be much but every little bit helps ;D

tomorrow {sun} is our official club match and i should put about another 200 to 300 rounds through it and then ill take it apart again to measure out the tolerance.
