reclil spring for a SP01
« on: April 21, 2010, 10:26:08 PM »
I have the standard CZ-75SP01 love the gun. I bought a steel recoil rod for the pistol from CZ. But when I attempted to change the old recoil rod out and place the new one in it would not fit. I called CZ and they told me to get a coil spring or a flat coil spring recoil spring. Well does anyone know what they are talking about and how can I get one?  ??? I think CZ does not offer this spring.

Thanks
Bill

usually the SP01 comes with a flat coiled recoil spring and if you try to install the SS guide rod with it you cant get it to fit. from what i have heard a regular old wolf spring or regular style round spring will solve this problem.

I had pretty much the same problem, being unable to get the steel rod guide to fit with the original flat wound recoil spring.  The cure is to buy and install a round wire 13-pound or 14-pound recoil spring from the Custom Shop.  The fit is still a little tight (with the 14-pound spring) but it will work.

Follow this link to their springs: http://czcustom.com/cz-springs.aspx

I suggest getting two so that you can experiment a little.  If I had to choose only one it would be the 13-pound spring.

as said above you will need a round wire recoil spring to get the SS guide rod to work. you can buy the springs at either CZcustom.com or gunsprings.com.

something you should keep in mind is that the stock springs for the SP-01 are an 18# recoil spring and a 18# main spring so if you wanna keep it to factory specifications those are the springs you want. (however most members here tend to change the spring strengths)

I had the same issue, and used the following fix. The plate on the back of the spring guide does not quite clear the under-lug of the barrel.  Break the back edge of the plate on spring guide (the edge that is trying to slide past the lug on barrel) with a small fine file. Not alot just round it so it is not  a 90 degree corner. Than stone it or use fine grit paper to smooth it up. Do not do any thing to the barrel lugs.

Advise you wear eye protection, and every one else in the room. If it gets away from you the spring guide will launch like a dart, and could cause some damage, punctured eye, chipped tooth, broken tv screen.

Try to get it in again, and when you reach the sticking point, give it a tap, forward not down,  with a small brass hammer or similar tool. You may need a third hand for this.  If it does not go on with a slight tap, don't force it.

Good luck.

It will come off easier than it goes on.  r gunfrog

The only reason they sell a steel rod is because people want to buy it.  My question is why?  The Delrin rod they come with and a 12-14 lb Wolf recoil spring will meet most peoples needs.   The flat wire recoil spring from the factory is 20 lbs which is to much for common plinking so other than lowering the spring weight why are so many people concerned about the rod?  All it does is keep the spring in place for assembly. Watch this video of a Glock still shooting after the rod departed the gun....

Matt85 and shooterdude, where do you get your info about the recoil springs on the SP-01 is 18 or 20 lbs?

I know the spring on the standard -75 is around 15 lbs and the SP-01 and Shadows I have handled definetly wasn't noticeable heavier then that.
I usually run a 16lbs Wolff spring in my pre-B 75 and that one is heavier then the springs in all the other CZ's I have tried. I have also tried a 18lbs spring in the same gun, but that made it redicilous heavy and I don't think I ever shot it with that spring installed. In my Shadow I have the spring that think is the original (bought the gun slightly used) and it's lighter then 16 lbs and probably due for a change.

To the original poster, if you shoot hot loads (+p or similar), I suggest you go with a 16 lbs spring, if you mostly shoot lighter loads a 14 or even a 13 lbs should be enough (but I've never had problems with my 16 lbs spring no matter what load I shoot).
