sweaty hands
« on: July 08, 2010, 03:15:28 PM »
It's been hot here and while shooting comp. my hands have been sweaty. I bought some Prince tennis grip enhancer gel to rub on my hands prior to shooting to help improve my grip. I haven't tried it yet but does anyone have any similar products they would recommend that would help in hot weather? Anything that would help (grippy) in cold weather when hands are dry?

That's basically what I use and it works great. The other thing I tried before hand was sort-qwik, the pink stuff for sorting money at a bank. when it dries, it's a bit tacky, but i found my sweaty hands just sweat it off. The prince grip is basically the same stuff sold in ipsc stores for double price.

I use it mixed with a grip that is 100% skate tape.

I use Pro Grip.  It works really well.  Doesn't make your hands sticky, but dries them out really well.  On really sweaty days i may have to reapply, but i just do that when I'm on deck.  As the shooter in front of me is getting the Make Ready command, I put it on, and then don't touch anything I don't have to.  On not so really hot days, it will last a few stages.

Pro Grip

I tried the weight lifters talc a few weeks ago.  Didn't like it.  Very messy, hands sweat right through it.

the prince tennis grip enhancer is the same exact product as pro grip, just half price. i believe it's mostly alcohol and talc powder or rosin.

Hot or cold, the coarse grip tape will leave little tiny blood marks,  but your hands will not slip wet or dry.   ;D

You should also experiment with different grip/skate tapes. Some are coarse, some are fine. I ended up using 3m Safety-Walk, which was a finer grit. Never peeled off yet. The tricky part is the backstrap with the curve. Took me a couple tries to get it to fit good back there without being wavy. A scrap piece of wood, metal rule, and x-acto knife help in cutting out precise patterns.

burningsquirrels +1

Cutting it to fit 'under' the back edge of the grips (learned here) also keeps it in place much longer.

I just did up the gun I got from Z Man. This time I cut squarish pieces and did 6 of them down the backstrap. Not much curving needed since they all fit nice and flat.

I?ve never shot a competition so pardon the ignorance. Why not just wear a glove? I know your talking about sweaty hands and wanting to stay cool, but I have some motorcycle gloves, fingerless, with a loose mesh across the back that lets your hand breath. Wouldn?t something like this work better and with out the mess?

wearing a glove is like wearing a condom. it ain't the same, and you lose feel and feedback, and it gets in the way.

Have you ever tried using VCF?  :P Va-ginal Contraceptive Film, it is? :D
Use no gloves, use grip enhancers.
