Mag release - why not ambi?
« on: August 17, 2005, 07:01:59 PM »
Apologies to all if this is a stupid or naive topic, but I am new to this stuff.

I have small hands. I also have a CZ85 Combat bought, among other reasons, cos it fitted my hands better than the Beretta 92's. However, despite the extended mag release, I cannot operate it with my strong hand thumb (right)without moving my grip. At the moment I use the thumb of my left hand as it breaks from the weapon for a mag change. This is slow and sometimes causes problems when it collides with the dropping magazine. I need to practice it some more, I guess.

So, what's my trigger finger doing while all of this is going on? Nothing. Just hanging out there being safe. If the mag release was on the other side my trigger finger could be usefully employed while my left hand did was it was supposed to do.

Why isn't it?

Cheers from the Philippines ....... Pete

The only answer:  "because."

Lack of foresight on the part of the gun's designers.  A number of other guns -- not just CZs -- have the same issue.

Newer CZ design have begun to incorporate reversible mag releases.
