Fore sight retaining pin
« on: August 11, 2005, 07:56:01 AM »
I've been firing a CZ85 in competition here in the Philippines for a couple of years. I recently had a problem when the front sight retaining pin became loose and eventually fell out completely. Another result was that the sleeve thru which the barrel passes at the end of the slide also fell out as the pin locks both items together!

Is this a common problem? I have not been able to get a replacement here but have used a temporary fix.

Thanks

The pin does NOT lock them both together.  The barrel bushing is pressed into the slide.

You've got two different problems.   I've not heard of a barrel bushing coming loose before.

If you have access to roll pins in your area, you don't need to order one from CZ to replace the missing pin.  (Jim Miossi has posted the measurements, here on the forum, somewhere.)

sorry to disagree. The barrel bushing has a grove on the top into which the foresight retaining pin fits.

I haven't noticed that in mine -- primarily because you can't remove the bushings (even with the front sight out.)

I wonder if someone drilled an over-sized hole in the front sight on yours?

The bushing is not meant to be removed once installed.  It doesn't even have a part number in the list of parts.

It was a brand new gun when I bought it, so nobody has messed with the foresight before. I think the problem lies with the bushing wearing for some reason, thus giving the retaining pin room to move to work itself loose. I used a s/steel rod, rubbed down to the correct dia and tapped it into the hole. I've since put 1000+ rounds thru it and it seem fine.

I saw that the bushing doesn't even feature in the spare parts list or expanded parts diagram. Surely an oversight even if it doesn't break very often. There're probably another 20 bits that are included that will also never need replacing!

On the subject of the fore-sight, I find it difficult to pick up in bad light. The white spot, (even enhanced with some typwriter correcting fluid!) is not as obvious as some other guns I've fired. Para Ord 45 for example, which has a nice orange flourescent add-on. Fancy. Anything equivalent for the Combat?

Thanks, Pete

You might want to look at the new fibre-optic sights available for the CZ.  Angus Hobdell has them available on his website (see the ASK ANGUS area, and look for one of his messages; a link to his site is shown there.)   (CZ offers them too, on their website.)

Fibre optic sights are marvelous in medium to bright light conditions, and no worse than standard in low light.

Angus also has a fibre-optic rear sight.

Your gun is the first I've heard of, in years of exchanging messages on CZ, that had a barrel bushing come loose.  The bushing are supposed to be pressed in, and they are NOT supposed to be removable.  I don't think it was an oversight that the bushing was not listed -- its simply not something that ever seems to be replaced.

Some Loc-tite ought to help yours.  It should NOT be retained by the sight pin alone.

Thanks for the reply and your help. I have  contacted angus for the f/o sights. They will be dispatched shortly.

I'll see what I can do about the bushing when I change the front sight.
