Failure: CZ85 right slide stop
« on: August 07, 2005, 01:07:52 PM »
I have shot (ca. 2K rounds) and enjoyed my recently acquired CZ85C to the extent that my favorite 1911 is getting lonely. Unfortunately, I discovered yesterday that the right slide stop was broken - the upper portion of the cylinder that engages the retaining spring was gone - and no longer secure in the pistol frame. I will contact CZ USA for a replacement.

I have two questions. First, is this a common failure, and if so, how can I reduce the chance of re-occurence? Second, how difficult is it to get the replacement stop under the retaining spring without any special tool (or much common sense).

Advice and/or experience will be appreciated. Thanks for your help!

No, it is NOT a common failure.

I've had an 85 Combat that I've been using, off and on, for 4-5 years, without problem.

Yours is the first example I remember reading of.   (I vaguely remember another problem mentioned, but don't know if it was the right-side lever or something else to do with that end of the slide/frame assembly.)
