New 85C
« on: March 09, 2005, 10:49:58 AM »
I've just finished putting about 600 rounds through a used 85C that came to me in nearly new condition. The gun showed little evidence of being shot previously, and I was impressed by the polished blue finish. It is a handsome pistol.

I do not have any experience with DA/SA pistols, but I find that the trigger is not bad and even in DA, the LOP is more than acceptable for those of us who can not palm basketballs. Nonetheless, I will soon get some trigger work done as my trigger scales indicate DA and SA pulls at > 11# and 6#, respectively. I am used to lighter triggers but find that especially in SA, I can place shots very effectively at 25 yards. I like this gun.

To my surprise, I also like the LPA sights. Target acquisition is fast and darn if they don't adjust just like they are supposed to. I will reserve judgment regarding the hardiness of the ungainly rear sight, but I have no plans to mess with what works. Maybe a dab of brighter paint on the FS for my old eyes.

I recently ordered new  10% mag springs in response to (now rare) premature lock back and find that both Gold Dots and Federal FMJ feed equally well. At the same time, I ordered new 14# and 15# recoil springs; my brass may soon fall a bit closer to home.

A question. I am getting substantial numbers of tiny, bright (brass) flakes after shooting. I assume that these are case scrapings due to sharp edges on mag lips, feed ramp, and/or chamber. Is this common? Is a mild polish job in order? I would be grateful for your comments and advice. Thank you.
