cz 83 for my wife ?
« on: November 04, 2010, 09:38:03 PM »
I'm looking at getting a 380 auto for my wife. She shot a Walther PK380 at our local gun shop and liked it because it felt comfortable to her and was easy to pull back the slide.
Because I own a couple of CZ firearms already, I started looking at the CZ 83. My wife's hands are small and not so strong, therefore :
1-Is the slide stiff, or difficult to pull back ? Could a child rack it ?
2- What about pulling the hammer back with the thumb ?
3-What is the trigger pull like, weight-wise ?

I have a CZ 75 B that I've added a stiffer recoil spring to. She can't pull back it's slide. She can thumb cock the hammer and she can fire it , both double action and single action.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

My wife doesn't have any problem with our CZ 83's,and
she is not some kind of amazon woman,do they have one
at your local fun store?
Have her try one out at the gunstore and then go from
there.
I recently picked up 2 used CZ83's from Coles that were
pretty cheap and are in great shape.

The 83 uses the same recoil spring as the 82, and while I find the 82 to be "slightly" stiff, It's hard to say without knowing your wife's grip strength. I'm sure it's something she can handle as it's not something she needs to do repeatedly throughout the day. The hammer is easy to cock.

With some of the newer .380 loads available, it can be a very useful SD round.

I think she'd like the way the 83 shoots. It's a bit heavier than most .380 with its steel frame, but the tradeoff is in the reduced felt recoil. If she can cycle the slide okay, a heavier recoil spring will reduce the recoil even further. Wolff makes a nice set for a resaonable price.

I thoroughly enjoy my 82, even in its 9mm Mak round, and once I get my hands on a good holster, it will fill a slot in my CC lineup.
Life isn't fair, stop expecting it to be.

CZ 83 in .32 was my granddaughters favorite from 14-16 years old and she could do all of those. Has now gone on to one of my 75B's.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

My wife couldn't rack the Buckmark  or Ruger .22 but she doesn't have any trouble with the CZ 83 in .32 cal.  It has the same spring as the .380.  But I sure would find one to let her try before I bought one.

If she can rack it she will find it fits a wide variety of hand sizes.  Good Luck.

I appreciate the replies, guys. No one, here locally, carries or stocks the Model 83. I'll try the pawn shops and or gun shows when they come to our area.

Thank you all,  Scott

The trick for most women in racking a gun slide is the push-pull method. We guys tend to grab the slide, yank it back, and go. A women can rack any slide with the push-pull method. Have her hold the gun normally but with bent elbow. Then have her grab the rear of the slide in the other hand. Than at the same time push with the hand holding the gun and pull the slide back with the other. My wife has never had an issue with any semi-auto because she was taught this system by an instructor. In fact, she carries a Walther PPS in 40S&W which has extremely stiff recoil springs.

What part of "shall not be infringed" do you not understand?

Right now you can get used cz 83 in 380 from sog about $259t0 269.00 go hand picked. My neighbor just got one trigger is nicely broken in for both double and single action, every thing seems to function alright-will know how it shoots Thursday or Friday. Now the finish was not the best thats why I said go handpicked, but this ones going to get duracoated next week to look similar to the bulgarian makarov one that I have posted under all my duracoated projects in the general firearms forum. Remember function is most important not looks. Now you can always go brand new ,my wife has the Cz 83 in 32 acp that we bought brand new, every one in our family enjoys shooting it. My wife has small hands and loves the fit of that pistol.

M wife loves her 82, same as 83 just in 9mm makarov. She shoots my sp-01 ok and has shot 1911's, glocks, xd's etc and her favorite is the 82. It has very tame recoil and generally a good DA pull and light SA pull. She told me I could never sell it and it was hers after 1 range session.
