I was a day away from ordering a new satin nickel CZ 75B when a used CZ-85 Combat showed up for sale at
www.thefiringline.com with extra mags for about the same price I would pay for the 75. On inspection, the gun looked brand new, and I could see that the owner had taken good care of it, so I bought it instead.
I took it to the range and was pleased to find out that it felt and shot exactly like my CZ 75B. The trigger was exactly the same: a small amount of free travel, a little hitch as the ?sear? moved upward against the notch on the hammer, then a clean break with a very slight increase in trigger pressure. Also like the CZ 75, the gun doesn't seem to be very sensitive to variations in ammo.
Once the sight was adjusted in, it shot to the same POA with all my loads. Very sweeeeet!
Only one problem that I have with both guns. I'm using factory magazines, and I have had several failures to feed caused by a round not being pushed out of the magazine tube. I load my own ammo, and I might be being caused by the long OAL that I've used. The cartridges are 1.145" long rather than a more typical 1.120", and started using this measurement to decrease the overall chamber pressure with high velocity loads.
I don't have any problem with this length cartridge in my Browning High Power, but have seen it with both of my CZs. Has anyone else had this problem with standard ammo, the mags, or can any other handloaders offer any insight?
