CZ 85 Combat
« on: April 27, 2004, 07:45:36 AM »
Just bought my brothers CZ in 9MM.  Came with two mags unfortuantely one is a 40Cal.  Noticed it when the 9's would occassionally strip.  Anyone no where I can get new 9 mm mags inexpensively for the 9?  Incidently both mags are engraved at the bottom so it may be a factory screw up.  Will trade a local smith for a 9mm and $20.

No reason to change mags.

Just bend the feed lips on the .40 mag slightly.  Wrap some electrician's tape around pliers (to keep from damaging the metal on the feedlips), and bend them down just a hair.

They'll then hold the 9mm without problem.

Use the width of the 9mm hardball bullet as a guide.  (Not the casing, but the bullet itself -- that's a good "field" guage of the proper width/gap.)

I only saved you $20 IF IT WORKS...

If it doesn't, contact me by private mail (click on my name at left), and I'll swap (a factory 9mm mag) with you for it.

That .40 mag, if you adjust the  feedlips, is a semi-hicap.  It should hold 13-14 rounds of 9mm ammo.

That said, the 9mm mag and the .40 mag sell for about the same price, so paying $20 Plus a 9mm mag is not a great deal.  I saw some factory .40 mags for $25 at a gun show this weekend, and any quality 9mm after-market mag should work in the 85.

(I have an 85 Combat, a 75 pre-B, a 75 Compact, a 75B SA, and some clones.  The only one that has problems with mags is the pre-B, which will use "factory" mags only.)
