I'm curious... Why would you do it?

Unless you're just crazy about the nickel finish, I can't think of a single thing the 85 Combat in SA mode would offer that isn't matched by the 75B SA , except for the adjustable sights, which are only SO-SO on an 85 Combat?

It might be argued that the absence of a firing pin block means something, but I wonder...

When I get around to actually getting one, I intend to send my 85 Combat to Mike for the SA conversion.  After owning a 75B for a while, I find it rather unlikely that you can get a 100% trigger with the FPB.

What does a SA do for you?  How is the trigger different?  Isn't the trigger pull longer?

MoNsTeR:

The 85 Combat doesn't have a firing pin block.  I don't really know what's gained by having it converted to single-action only.   Just having a good trigger job would make sense, though.

(My pre-B CZ-75 has the best single-action trigger I've ever felt in a DA/SA gun, and its every bit as good as my nice Browning Hi-Power.  I'm sure a SA version of the 75B isn't as good, and my 85 Combat has just a hint of creep.  The pre-B 75 just breaks. Period.)

I know the 85C has no FPB, that's the point.

The hammer on a DA CZ is cut in the center for the... part, some call it the interrupter, some the disconnector.  An SA-only CZ hammer (ie: the Champion hammer) is /not/ cut for the interrupter/disconnector, thus it has full-width engagement with the sear.  I don't know if that makes a whole lot of difference, but there it is.

I remain skeptical.

Supposedly, the firing pin block on any "b" gun can be smoothed well enough that it does not negatively affect trigger pull.

(I suspect that's at least part of the reason why Mike's trigger jobs -- he's the CZ gunsmith -- are so good and so expensive).

I don't think anyone is likely convert an 85 Combat to SA, so we'll probably never know, but I'd bet that in a fair test, there'd be very little difference in shooting results between a well-tuned 85 Combat (converted to SA) and a well-tuned 75B SA.

(For that matter, I can't imagine even a tuned 75B SA having a much better trigger than my recently acquired pre-B 75 which is DA/SA.)

If that's true, then results are likely to be more dependent on the shooter, the wind (if outdoors), distractions, other quirks of the guns, than the triggers themselves.

I'm want to buy a 75b SA or 85 Combat, but no stocking dealers in my area...so, can anyone tell me the difference in the trigger reach of the 75SA & the 85C (when cocked), and the difference in the pull...I know, buy both, LOL. thanks
