CZ 85 plus CZ P01 battery?
« on: August 31, 2003, 08:13:05 AM »
I am planning to get a CZ 85 and a CZ P01 as my main defense gun set.
The CZ 85 would serve as home defense while the CZ p01 would be my primary carry.
Can i use the CZ 85 mags on the P01?
How does the handling characteristics of the two compare in terms of recoil, trigger feel, and ergonomics?

Yes, the 85 mags can be used in the P-01 -- but they're larger, and will stick out.  The P-01 mags won't work in the 85B (but because of the way you asked the question, I suspect you already know that).

I haven't shot the P-01, but do have a similar 75 Combat.

Except for the fact that the P-01 is a decocker version, and can't be carried cocked and locked, the two guns should feel and shoot a lot alike.

Unsolicited advice: there's no real reason to have both.  In fact, I think you'd be better off with just one gun and a LOT of ammo (for practice/developing proficiency).

Or, if you've just got to have two,  two of the same model, so you quickly get comfortable with just one manual of arms.

I'm not personally all that enthused about decocker versions, but that's a matter of personal preference.  I DO LIKE cocked and locked.

Thanks for the quick reply walt.
I only wanted the P01 as carry gun because it is smaller, lighter, easier to conceal.
I used to carry a CZ75B, which is practically the same size as the CZ85B, and I found it hard to conceal even if it is relatively flat. This is why I switched to a walther P99.
The P01 or the CZ75B can easily disappear within the blubbery confines of my fat waist, just like the P99.
However, I think the trigger of the CZ is much more appropriate for accurate shooting.
I shoot better with the CZ and 1911 than the Walther.

Understood.

If smaller is better, you might want to check out the PCR or the Compact (one with decocker, the other without).  Because they don't have the utility rail on the front of the frame like the P-01 -- which isn't useful if you're carrying concealed, anyway -- they're both slightly smaller through the front of the frame.  That should make them marginally more concealable.
