Mags for setting up a 75 Shadow rig?
« on: February 04, 2011, 06:29:12 AM »
I'm continuing to wring out my 75 Shadow, and now starting to think about my competition rig for it.  I believe I will have a Blade-Tec holster, and at least for now a couple of modded Uncle Mike's double mag pouches.  I am now trying to figure out what I do for magazines.

I intend to shoot (or attempt to shoot) the following with this gun: USPSA production, IDPA SSP (when/if approved), Steel Challenge, USPSA 3-gun (local rules - load to capacity as long as your gun fits in the Limited box).

The two mags that shipped with the gun are CZ 18 rounders (both will hold and function with 19 reloadable).  However, I've been told that the 18 round mags won't fit in the SSP or Production size requirements.  So I think I need at least 5 shorter mags (for SC, USPSA Prod, and IDPA SSP), and probably one more long one (for 3-gun).

For the shorter magazines, it seems to come down to three choices - CZ factory, Mec-Gar 16 rounders, or Mec-Gar 17 round AFC's.  So far I've had VERY good luck with Mec-Gars in my wifes Beretta 92, so I'm certainly open to non-factory (especially since Mec-Gar seems to make the CZ mags).

For both the factory and Mec-Gar 16 rounders, I believe I'll need basepads.  This adds some expense (not a whole lot, but some).  However, I've read about some folks having problems with the AFC mags in SP-01 Shadows.  Is this still an issue?

What do you all recommend for Production/SSP mags for the 75 Shadow?

The 18 round factory mags are USPSA production legal. They are also good for 3 gun since you can slap an extended base on them and have max capacity. 3 for 90 I think from czusa. Dunno bout idpa.

If u buy a short mag, just get the 16 round mec gar. 20 a pop and cheap.

Fwiw you can use rubber basepads for the beretta 92 on the cz which are uspsa legal. They are 3.50 from beretta. Since u already have a 92 try it from an existing mag

So the 18 rounders are production legal?  Hmmm....  How about the 19 round AFC's?

Would you believe that I don't have any basepads for any of my 5 92FS mags?

I know, I know, I'll be over here reading BE's book as penance....

You'll still have to wait to hear if the 75 Shadow is Production legal..
there is a box for USPSA Production. the SP01 mags fit the box.
you can use any mag, basepad combination as long as it fits in the box.
8 15/16? x 6? x 1 5/8?

I didn't think the 75/SP-01 with the 18rd mags had a problem fitting in any of the "boxes". I'm hopefully putting in an order for my 75 Shadow next week still waiting on my tax return money haha. I'm going to hopefully shoot it in SSP as well. I really only shoot at local club matches don't think it will be a problem anyway...
