Dual Purpose VZ58
« on: February 05, 2011, 06:35:33 PM »
My new CZ VZ58 will arrive this tuesday.  I plan on using this rifle both for fun at the range and wild hog.  From my pistol comp days I have a ADCO
Solo Sight with 3 MOA dot and a old New in the box ProPoint 5 with 3 MOA dot.  Both sights are proven on 45 and 40 Cal pistols and I want to mount one on my VZ58.  I am assuming that 3 MOA is about this rifles ability as far as accuracy goes but wanted any feedback you folks might have.  Just a few pics of my intentions:

My ADCO 4 reticle solo sight.

2 10 rnd double stack mags for hunting hog.

Cool! Does your state allow hunting with a sem auot with a greater than 5 round magazine? AZ only allows five rounders, and nobody makes one for the vz-58 that I am aware of.
I had an ADCO that went south on me fast, nice to see you got a good one.

I don't hunt with red dot, or any other electronic sights, although, I might consider a PK-AS, since it has a reticle when the batteries run out.  But at distances where the 7.62x39 is most effective, a 3 moa dot should be OK, I guess.  I have AKs, (Saigas, actually) that are a more accurate than 3 moa.

Armoredman brings up a good point (he's good at that, isn't he?).  There are two things you need to check on - whether you can have a magazine with a capacity greater than 10 - if not, you can always block the mag so it will only take 5 rounds - and whether or not hogs are game animals.  In my state, they are not considered game animals, and you can kill them any way you want with anything you want on private land.

Louisiana and the surronding states consider hogs varmin.  On private land take em any way ya can.  Public lands in Florida do require a max 5 rnd mags but plenty of private land owners begging ya to come kill as many as ya can.  My ADCO is a model with 4 reticals including a simple cross T one.  It has been through some tough combat courses and still running like a champ.  It has seen service on both 40 and 45 cal race guns and just doesn't stop.  Sorry to hear ya had a bad one.  Of course if it ever does quit I might get a low powered scout type scope.  I do have 2 10rnd mags on back order with CP.  I might eventually get a 5/10 mag out of Canada but at this time not in the plans.

After 3 unanswered emails from Scout Scopes I went with a NEA upper handguard with rail for my optic mount.  A few Bucks more but seem to be highly rated on this sight.

I have also fabricated a new cheek weld from left over 1/2 inch neoprene and Velcro so it is removable.  To be honest the one from CP had to be flipped over since I am left handed and seemed unsubstancial for me.  Later when the NEA top handgaurd is installed I will post a pic of the finished and ready to go rifle.

Very nice. Someday I might get an NEA upper.
