CZ 75B and XDM 45 Range Day
« on: February 23, 2011, 04:30:04 PM »
Finally got to bring my new CZ 75B to the range today and I am a little dissappointed.    First let me preface by stating that I am new to handguns and this was only my 4th time to the range.  I bought my XDM 45 in December and probabably have about 500 rounds through it now.  It was my first handgun I have ever shot so this is the only gun I can compare it to.

I decided to start the morning off with my new CZ 75B as I had been really excited to try it out.  From 7 yards out first shot I fired was low and to the left.  Lined up the sights again and took aim and again it was low and to the left.  Three magazines later I decided to reposition my finger on the trigger so that the tip of my finger was touching the trigger and it was not curving around.  Once I made this adjustment my shots were much more consistent and about a 1/2 inch from the bullseye I was aiming at.  I ended up shooting about 100 rounds of WWB 115gr and the gun performed flawlessly, but I felt that I was really stuggling to hit my target consistently as everything still felt low and left.

I was feeling a little disappointed after this showing so I broke out the XDM.  Again, from 7 yards out I took aim and slowly squeezed the trigger.  This time it was a bullseye right of the bat.  I fired 50 rounds of WWB 230gr and 50 rounds of Independence 230gr without a hiccup and all shots were tight and on target.

I really dont undrstand why I felt so much better shooting my XDM.  I feel like th CZ 75B fits my hand perfectly but the trigger pull seemed much longer even in SA.  I love the sights on my XDM and felt like I was really struggling to line the target up with the sights on the CZ 75B.  Also, after 100 rounds through the CZ my finger started to become really sore.  I hope with a few more hundred rounds the trigger will loosen up a bit.

As of right now I like my XDM 45 a little more, but with some more time at the range I think that might change if the trigger will loosen up and I can become more consistent with the CZ.

It's not a problem.  Different folks need/want different guns.  It sounds like the XDM is a good match for you.

Practice will have you hitting bulls eyes effortlessly, with both guns.  Or, you could sell your 75b to me...I want one, and have a nice crisp $20 bill sitting on my desk.  ;)

Funny, had an XDM45 for a bit and found the sight picture to be a bit off, which affected my accuracy and had to compensate for it.  Find that I was more accurate with my 75B.  Different strokes I guess.

Definitely not given up on the CZ.  I plan to bring it back to the range next week, but will try some S&B 124gr this next go around.   I know with some more practice I will get more consistent with it and it feels too good in my hand to get rid of it.  I am certain the issues are with me and not the gun.  Can't wait for the next day at the range!  8)

Don't be discourage, it was just the oppitsite for me, my cz75b is so dead on at 25 yards it will scare you, my xdm 45 at 7 yards is such a pain that you just want to put in down and start throwing rocks at the target. What you need to do is pratice pratice pratice, and just have fun, this is the idea of target shooting after all, is to have fun don't worry about hitting the bulls eye be happy just hitting the target.
Vent over!!!

Same for me I have an XD 9 compact which seems to shoot 2"-3" low and to the left while all my CZ's seem to be about dead on right from the box. Yo may want to double check your sights to make sure they didn't get bumped off center a little. Also I have found it I take several pistols to the range that have different (from SA to SA/DA really screws me up) actions it tends to really screw up my aim and I have to work to get it back so you might try just using the CZ until you become more comfortable with it.
No one's gonna to do it for you.

Update:  I took the CZ back to the range yesterday with 150 rounds of S&B 124gr and the tides have turned.  Not sure if it was the WWB 115gr that I shot previously, but it seemed to be much more accurate this trip.  I am really loving this gun.  I did not bring my XDM this time as I really wanted to focus on getting better with the CZ.  I purchased 10 boxes of the S&B so I cant wait to go back next week.  I will try and post my target from 7 yards out later on tonight. 8)

Hey, keep shooting, my friend!

Different guns are different guns.  And handguns are certainly a different animal than long guns.

Glad to read the updates and progress.

I can't get good with any gun until I have about 500 rds down range. It's taxing, but I manage. ;)
