97b slapped the mag in and automatically goes into battery??
« on: February 28, 2006, 11:42:36 PM »
Took my new, used 97b to the range this evening and noticed something sorta weird. With the slide locked open, when I slapped (meaning with some authority) a magazine in, it automatically goes into battery. It was sorta cool, saving a step of pressing down the slide release, but wondering if this is normal or if it's something that needs to get fixed?

Enjoy it and consider it a no-cost benefit.  It can speed reloads considerably.

Happens with a lot of guns.  I wish ALL my guns would do it.

I have some Glock mags I use wth my 34 that will do it every time, and others that won't; for that gun, at least, its a mag thing.  I try to use the "good" ones in a match.

Angus says he modifies his CZ mags to do it -- but he hasn't explained what the modification entails.

I've had that happen consistently with some Glocks, and inconsistently with an HK.  Walt's right, it's quicker.  But I kinda like the feel of manually releasing the slide.  It puts the period in the gun's penultimate statement: "Ok, time to shoot something."

Try this--Place an empty magazine in the pistol with the spring and follower removed and the slide locked back. Verify that the edges of the magazine are not touching the slide or slide lock anywhere, and give it a rap on the base of the magazine. If it goes into battery, chance are the vibration is allowing the slide lock spring to disengage the slide lock.

My Witness does it, and I like it. Once your aware of the "feature" it won't surprise you. It does take an deliberate rap to make it happen. I suspect Tanbleeplio is aware of it because they specifically say in the manual not to slam the magazine into the pistol.

Hi, this is a feature I wish my Colts, Kimbers, Rugers and Smiths had. First experiencd this with my Glocks years ago. I had made a call to Glock and was told this was intentional. When I got my 97B and the slide dropped when I slapped the next mag I was thrillled! Don't need an extended slide release after all! :rollin
