Would like to buy a 97B
« on: March 04, 2006, 10:23:09 PM »
I recently bought a 75B Compact and really like the gun.  I'm now thinking about a used 97B that a local gun shop has for sale.  He wants $465.00 for it, but that seams pretty steep.  He claims the previous owner only put one or two boxes of shells through it, but I've heard that story before.  It's date stamped 99 and has the serrations on the rear of the slide, not both front and rear.  It has the blue finish and looks good, but I haven't had the chance to field strip it to check for wear indicators.  The grip size isn't a problem for me and looks like it (or one like it) would be a great addition to my Browning HPs, Kimbers, and Glocks.

The only authorized CZ dealer in town (Tucson) charges straight list for everything.  A friend with an FFL has brought guns in for me in the past, but I don't want to wear out my welcome with him.  So I may try to work something out with this 97B.

Any telltales to look for while inspecting the gun?  Any observations on a model this old versus the newer ones?

I may try to work out a multi gun trade for this one and a Springer 1911A1 in 9 MM he also has in stock (with only a couple of boxes of shells through it too ;-).

Thanks

$475 ain't real bad!  I think that's what I gave for a used gloss blue one here on the CZF Classifieds a few months ago. Their retail is well over $500 and most dealers get that for them.

Don't be too concerned about the serrations on the slide.  It's possible to get a "brand new" 97B without the front serrations.

Others should be better able to tell you what to look for when you get a chance to field strip it.

I sold my pretty much LNIB polycoat on here about 2 months ago for 400.00 shipped, but it went in just a few hours.  I'd say keep looking here in the classifieds.

 Regards Sonny

On what to look for in a used 97B, I'll assume you've check out used pistols before for I'll just mention two particulars of the 97 that I've noticed.

Take a close look in two places.  The loaded chamber indicator should move freely.  Look at the threads on the bushing, they should be intact and not stretched.

If the loaded chamber indicator is stuck it may just need cleaning.  If not, CZ has what you need.

If the bushing threads are torn or show excessive wear this may be a sign of a poorly fitted barrel or it may just be that the previous owner assembled the gun wrong.  Either way CZ can fix.  But it will allow negotiation on the price.

The price offered is a good one for a quality steel .45

Yeap, Sonny sold that 97B Poly to me and it shoots VERY good. Doesn't like to feed some HP's but I'll fix that later. Now I'm looking at a Glossy Blue 97; dang, what's wrong with us gun guys? I actually don't know if I have enough room left in my safe for another gun???? I guess I'll find a way to fit it in, ha!
