Magazines Bad, too many FTF with my new 97
« on: March 05, 2011, 04:15:30 AM »
So I finally bought me a 97 to complement my 75 and 83... ya, I'm a CZ fan. :)
I ran about 600 rounds of your basic ball ammo but I was having too may FTF with it so I sent the gun and both magazines back to CZ USA under warranty (the guns only a month old).
CZ USA told me I had bad magazines, but they did not have any in stock, so I sit and wait... it's been 3 weeks now, still no magazines  :(
The problem is likely mag springs, I have Wolff +10% on order, but I can't do a thing until CZ USA sends me back my gun and replacement magazines.
Waiting, waiting, waiting...

no necessarily so.   i p/u a used LNIB blued one and the depending where you want to point the finger it could be the mag or the mag release.  the mag sits low so when you try to shoot you get the same problems as you.  theres a gap at the base of the grip/mag and if you push up on that, the problem goes away.

fyi, there is a search function on this board.  try using it sometimes, you would be surprised whats already been posted.

try calling or emailing them.   if its just a "mag issue" then it shouldnt take that long unless they ran out of mags.

Consider also some of the modifications shown here.

The rounding of the back of the Follower is one mod there I think would really help you.  I've done that one, but not the leg trim yet.

I use the Wolff +10% Magazines Springs in my Magazines for my .45 EAA Witnesses, so you are on track with those.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Problem being I sent the gun and both mags to CZ, so they have my gun. Not much I can do until CZ ships my 97 and new mags back to me. Still waiting... ::)

tink,

Since you are waiting and, I presume, are keeping the 97B, you will want extra mags anyway.  I buy MecGar Witness .45ACP mags.  Essentially the same mag as factory, although perhaps with the slight gap between the heel of grip and mag base.  They work great for me....

Shoemaker,

Just wanted to let you know if you don't stress relieve the spring after stretching, it will damage the spring, plus the spring will want to return to it's original length.  Stress relieve by putting the "stretched" spring in an oven set at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes.  Then it will "set".

I did go ahead and buy two more mags to play with from http://gregcotellc.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=97_134&products_id=598
Like to try some of these mag mods > http://tz75man.forumco.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=170

If I didn't love the CZ product line so much I could be really upset by now. But I figure in the end it will be worth it.

My 97 is home finally!

Well. CZ finally shipped back my 97. Three, yes "3" month sitting on the shelf at CZ waiting for new magazines.
It was worth the wait. She's perfect now. They shaped, cleaned and polished the feed ramp too.
Done 200 rounds and not a single FTF. Ya! ;D
