So, what about a 10mm 97?
« on: March 10, 2011, 06:59:53 PM »
It seems like a natural for this chambering, especially considering that the Bren Ten was in very large measure based upon the CZ75.

imo, the 10 is such a niche market now, i doubt anything will happen.

also, i would assume that the reason they didnt/havent done a 97 in 10mm already is that the components maynot holdup to the 10.  also, the cost of making the components for such a few individuals.  if i were to do it, i would redesign from the ground up to eat 10.   people love to modify guns to eat other chamberings w/o thinking, but sometimes you forget or dont know how those components as in frame/side was design and the limits of that design.

im sure youre waiting for the new bren 10,  how many years now?  im sure it will be out "next year".

Well, no, actually. I have a pair of Glock 10mms that shoot like a house afire.

Well, given the reported slide failures on the Witnesses, it would be interesting -- if not too expensive to do. Do the guys that did your P220 10 mm conversion have any experience with the 97b? Meaning, whether it's stout enough with minimal changes? Who does short runs of replacement or drop-in barrels, if that's all that's required.

You mean Bruce Gray and his capable crew? Well, the subject hasn't come up, but I can ask him.

And then there's this S&W 1006 I'm contemplating sending to him...

You can make your own CZ-75 in 10mm.  Basically, all it would take is a 10mm finish reamer and the appropriate recoil spring.  Not sure about the 40 mag working with the longer 10mm, but you may be able use a Sabatti mag that fits a Witness.

The Witness in 10mm cracks slides and frames mostly due to heat treating the leaves these components brittle.  Add in the fact they are known to be under sprung and you have a propensity for problems.  The CZ slide and frame is not heat treated, a huge plus for durability as 10mm IMHO.

BTW, with regard to the SIG P220 in 10mm, here's what Mister Gray says about the Grayguns conversion:

"I believe the 10mm Norma represents the outside fringe of power for the P-series, and preferably in it's most moderate, practical loadings.

There are times when a good heavy revolver makes sense. I don't envision these 10mm P220's as raw horsepower hand-cannons, but rather as practical pistols capable of exceeding .45 ACP ballistics by a reasonable degree. We must remember than even the mildest 10mm factory loads far exceed any .45 ACP in sectional density / penetration and flat trajectory. A 175 grain bullet at 220PF will certainly outperform any .45 load on medium game, say, and still be practical for carry under some circumstances at least. That's my thrust here.

I'd like to see it happen, but CZ won't do it. There was a run a CZ built for IPSC that were built on the 97 frame so it was possible at one time. They didn't even block the magazines so people could load their .40 on the long side like they do for their STIs' in .40. They could of reamed the barrel out for 10MM and do something with the locking and offer it in 10MM, but alas CZ wasn't interested.

So do I, and a G29SF as well. But that's beside the point, which is that a CZ platform for the 10mm might be hellaciously fun.

Personally, variety is the spice of life. I think it would be something CZ Custom could do, but I'm skeptical as to whether the price would be competitive as far as standard CZs, Glocks and Witnesses go.
