Question of rounds advancing in magazine

I've been dry-firing my new CZ97 with Azoom rounds, and noticed that when ever I pull the magazine out with rounds still in it, that the top round in the magazine is moved forward, about 1/4" inch.

I assume that this is normal for the next round in the magazine to move forward like this when the round above it is chambered?

If you were using REAL rounds rather than snap caps, it might be grounds for concern.  (But its kind of hard to dry-fire that way.  <grin>).  Snap caps don't behave like real rounds, except in how they chamber.

If you see this behavior with live rounds, at the range, you might need stronger mag springs.

Funny you should mention that, Walt....

I had some FTF'S Gold Dot HP's yesterday. When I put only
7 in the the mag, they fed and fired fine. But when I used a fully loaded 10 round mag, the first two rounds following the first chambered one would jam, with the slide open. Both times the top HP round in the mag was moved forward--I had to push it back to the back of the mag to rechamber it.

I really don't think it was a problem with the mag not seated high enough in the CZ. Could be the feed ramp needs polishing. But after seeing the Azoom ammo rounds today do the same, I wondered if it was like you said, that the mag springs are the problem--Which would be a bummer, as the mags are new out of the box.

In any case, I really appreciate all your kind help answering my many pesky questions Walt.

We've seen a run on weak springs in new mags of late.  (Even factory mags made by Mec-Gar.)  

That MAY be the problem in your case.  MAY.  You might try contacting CZ and see what they say about it.  

The fact that they're sliding forward isn't necessarily a problem, but if you start getting premature slide lock, that's a likely suspect.
