Regarding the scratches -- and whether they'll make it good:
Scratches can generally be fixed with Duplicolor auto body touchup paint in matte black. (You have to apply it carefully, but its an almost perfect match.) I've been very successful in the few times I've tried, but had to redo it in some places, when my first effort wasn't as "cosmetic" as I wanted.
Jim Miossi, in the Home Gunsmithing area, has given us a more complete way to refinish larger areas, with a Brownell's-supplied finish that is at least as good as polycoat, and looks the same.
