97B Production stopped ??
« on: October 24, 2005, 08:11:05 AM »
Hello everybody,
Reading you from a land far far away, I finally decided to take a closer look to this famous CZ97B.
My gunsmith just told me that CZ has stopped the production of the 97.
According to him, it's probably because they will soon present a new .45 model.
Does anybody heard about that? Just a fake?
Thank you for all the information you can give on this forum.
PS: sorry for my bad english... I'm so far...:smokin

Gunsmiths and dealers generally don't have good info about things like this.

Some dealers were told that production of new CZ-85s, recently, were put on hold for a couple of months,as other guns were pushed through the plant.  If production is stopped on the 97B, its probably just a temporary delay, like with the CZ-85s.

Well if it is true I hope it is because they are kind of making an over sized monster sp01/97B combination but I also do not see why they wouls stop production on the regular 97B because a practical/tactical/operator/xtreme or what ever buzz word you put there would not fill some shooters needs and they would prefer old reliable. In any case I am very glad I have mine.

I wouldn't be surprised. After all, they discontinued the 40B, which is an awesome pistol. That is bad news if true. If anything they should make a small 97B.

They didn't STOP production of the 40B.  It actually never REALLY started.

The 40B was originally built as a joint venture with Colt; it was designed to be the Colt Z40.  But Colt backed out on the deal before they got into full production (less than 1000 were made).  CZ was left with a production line ramped up to produce Z-40s and built a bunch of CZ-40Bs (very similar to the Z40) and sold them at rock-bottom prices.

A good gun and great prices.

The 40B guns we've been able to buy probably would not have existed except for Colt's participation.  Ditto the 40P, which is a gun made up of leftover 40B slides and P-01 frames (with some modifications.)

Walt:

Is this the pistol that J & G Sales in Arizona are advertising for $299?  I wondered about that.

Still in love with my 97!

I saw a 40P on their site for $300, if that's what you mean.  That's the "second" variation of the original Colt Z-40... mounted on a different frame.

(Its amazing: they'll put a .40 slide on a alloy p-01 [lighter] frame, but everything since then has been steel.  I'd prefer alloy, given a choice.)

Thanks Walt!

Here's a link to this pistol S & G's CZ 40-P

It looks very interesting, if I had a spare $300 I'd pick one up!

The biggest surprise for my on the 40P was the accuracy.  I can outshoot most of my other .40 caliber CZs with the 40P.  It just doesn't want to miss.  :)

Spoke with Jason Morton of CZUSA today, wrapping up a few last minute questions for my article.  He said production IS NOT stopping on the 97B, they are only discontinuing the glossy blue finish.

No more "glossy blue"!!  I'm so glad that mine has it, now I not only have a fabulous pistol, but have a collector's item as well!

I hope this might leave the way open for a stainless... or dare I wish it a hard chrome version of the 97B?

I got my glossy blue finish by mistake.  Maybe it was a good mistake.  I know one thing about it.  The glossy blue shows a lot of machine marks that do not show on the matte finish.
