speaking of which, is it advisable to have your brand new black matte re-finished to say chrome or silver? or should i wait for it to show some wear before i try to introduce any refinish on the gun?

First, it may be a long, long time before there's enough finish wear to justify refinishing.  The polycoat finish is quite durable.  And small nicks or scratches can be fixed with Duplicolor matte black auto touch up paint.

(Jim Miossi, in our Home Gunsmithing area, explains how to do a more permanent and durable finish of large areas -- that is indistinguishable from the factory finish, and just as durable.  He can do that work, if the need arises.)

Second: have you priced refinishing.  It might make you willing to put up with some blemishes.  Refinishing and shipping will go well over the $200 level, and then some, for any plated finish...

Again, Thanks Walt...   made me think a little bit more bout it. Lucky for me, local guns smiths in my area do offer such refinishing service, what i do doubt is the end result (im a believer of the "expert touch" :D  ).

my guns currently a week old (in my possession at least), and about 300 rounds through it, yesterday after i got home from the range i noticed a silverish speck at the flat top area of my gun (near the ejection port), i couldnt seem to wipe it off, now the tip Walt just gave will readily address and hopefully fix the perceived problem. Dang, my problems solved even before i could post it. :eek

this forum is awesome and smoking!!! :smokin

hats off to ye all!!!

and yes i  almost forgot:

You see I was reviewing my Guns and Ammo mag (july 2005 issue), last saturday when I came about the Handgunning page of Garry James, which was aptly entitled CZ ACQUIRES DAN WESSON, to quote:

while the transition is expected to take about 60 days (and this should be complete by the time you read this), right now the Commander-size stainless 1911 type in .45 ACP  and 10mm and the Pointman 5-incher in the same calibers are available (for a complete reading see page 22 ibid).

This seems quite intriguing given this topic and if taken in context with what really started this topic. But could it really be? :(
