Are recent CZ 97b's improved vs. first production s?
« on: November 22, 2005, 08:45:58 PM »

What I mean, is there any minor improvements with the currently manufactured CZ97 from the originial ones?
From some of the posts I've read here, there apperas to be some minor fixed that CZ has addressed with later production  pistols--Am I right?

They changed the barrel bushing.  That's about the only change I can think of that is a "functional" change.

The 97B has been a pretty trouble-free gun.  (Much less so than some new models from other manufacturers.)

Walt,

How has the barrel bushing been altered?  When was it changed?

It is not very re-assuring to realize that CZ has consistently ignored all input from its customers on 97b updates.  Therefore you can be certain that the 97b you purchase today will have all the little quirks of the original 97b's.  Looking on the positive side, you will have lots of suggestions from the forum as you discover them one by one.

A quick comment on the so-called "improved" barrel bushing.  Original bushings had only one cutout position.  It was impossible to install it incorrectly.  Bushings then started showing up with a full circle of fitting positions.  This gave some people the idea that the purpose of the bushing is to accurize the barrel fit at lockup.  So, they cranked those bushings down hard and the result was cracked bushings and in some cases a crack in the end of the slide.  Therefore I do not call the newer style bushing "improved" since it is not idiot proof like the originals.

I'm not all that knowledgeable about the 97B.

The bushing change was already explained.

They've changed the baseplates on the mags, to cover the unsightly gap.  (They should have changed the mag catch a bit, instead.)

They sometimes don't feed hollowpoints as well as they should, but some have fixed that after polishing the ramp.  Others have recontoured the ramp.  CZ seems indifferent to this problem.   (Raising the mags a bit, by changing the mag release might also improve the feeding of hollow points; at least two folks have done that and said it helped.)

Lazarus' point is that these are relatively simple fixes, but they haven't really responded.

That's not a long list, and not everybody has this set of problems.
