97B or Glock 21
« on: October 09, 2005, 10:56:19 AM »
I am considering the 97B I have 3 45acp"s now am thinking about trading glock 21 for one would that be good or is the Glock a better and more accurate pistol?
I love my other CZ"s. I do not know anything about the 97 and have not even seen one just thought about it.
Thanks for all the input in advance

I like Glocks, but find the 21 to be too big in the grip to be comfortable.  (I've had a 17, have a 34, and will someday get a 35.)  The .45s feel like 2"x4"s to me.

The big Glocks are okay with regard to accuracy, but I've never heard anyone claiming they're exceptional.

The 97B, on the other hand, may be CZ's most accurate pistol.

I had a 97B and found the grip a little bigger than I liked.  Try the grip on one -- if you find it OK, you'll probably love the 97B.   (Since "big" wasn't mentioned in your reference to the Glock 21, I suspect it'll be okay.)

The 97B and the SIG 220 are considered the best out-of-the-box DA/SA .45s available for under $1000.

roc1,

I've got both the G21 and the 97B.  Like Walt said, the G21 grip is like holding onto a 2x4.  It's kind of a odd thing, when I'm just holding it the grip is uncomfortable but when I'm actually firing it the uncomfortable feeling just disappears.

The 97B has a large grip also but the similarity ends there.  I find the 97B much more comfortable both handling and firing even with the large grip.

I hardly ever shoot the G21 anymore and should get rid of it.  However, once upon a time I did trade a rifle I had back when I was about 19 and have regretted it ever since.  Since then I just hang on to all of them regardless.

If I could only have one 45ACP, I would keep the 97B.

Regards,
SgtMaj

The Glock is more reliable.  The CZ is more accurate.

Haven't heard many complaints about CZ-97Bs not being reliable.  They seem to avoid many of the quirky behavior traits of some of the other CZs, even though they share many components.

I have.  The test gun CZ sent me was a "Jam-o-matic" with anything but FMJ when I got it, and even after my gunsmith re-shaped the ramp three times, and extensive experimenting with Wolff recoil springs, it only feeds select HPs.  I have stronger mag springs on order from Wolff, and I'll try that, but I'm not holding my breath.

My -97 had eaten everything that I have fed it.  The only time I run into any problems at all is after 125+ rounds of Wolf (the ammo, not the springs) in an IDPA match.  With anything cleaner, no problems at all.  And this includes all of the hollow points that I have tried (Golden Saber, Hornady TAP, Gold Dot, Remington cheapies).

I asked the same question to my self in the store looking at them both. I went home with the 97B. I think the Glock is a fantastic pistol however the 97B felt much better in my hands and I love how it looks like a tank. When I shot it I was completely sold on it. It is the most accurate .45 I have ever shot. Granted I have never shot a $2000 custom pistol or a $10000 Lothar or whatever their name is. I recomend it. The only set back I have seen is its picky eating of HPs but it seems like every one that wants to gets them up and running with HPs so for me that downside is even mute.

I just picked up my new 97B -- will be shooting it tonight.
I also have a glock 21-- early 90s, one of the earlier ones imported -- which I love -- great reliability, accuracy -- I have big hands, so I actually find it to be pretty comfortable...other take issue with its ergos.

It won't help with your decision, but take comfort in knowing that you won't make a bad choice either way, both are great imho.
