Just 3 more days till I get my 97B
« on: September 12, 2005, 08:16:34 PM »
Filled out the forms at the store today and saw the gun for the first time, I was very impressed with it :)   I was worried that the grip would be too large but pleasantly surprised to discover that it seemed to fit in my hand perfectly :)   Unfortunately there's a 3 day waiting period here before I can take it home :(

I already ordered a JackAsh guide rod & 16 pound spring, but until then, is there a certain break in procedure you're supposed to follow with these guns?  Or do you just clean, oil, and take them to the range? :D

What communist state are you in that has a 3day waiting period?

Sorry about the three day "because we can make you" waiting period. However I am pleased to hear of your fine choice in a new pistol. I just shot mine and broke it in that way and did not follow any procedure. The grip does look big but feels good and that is why I got the 97B instead of the Glock 21. The 21s grip is not to bad for me but the 97s is much better.

Florida.  I agree the law is ridiculous, I can buy an AK47 clone and walk out of the store with it in 5 minutes, but if I wanted to buy a .22 revolver I'd have to wait 3 days :rolleyes

if 3 days is bad, I'm waiting 10days here in CA to get delivery of my Witness .45ACP from my FFL. I can't wait, and it has only been last Friday that the gun arrived at my FFL.

Just got home with my CZ :D     It's very nice, I'm impressed with how smooth it is.  For example, when you let the slide forward it slides smoothly into place, on my GLOCK 17 it slams into place so hard it makes my ears ring :lol

Now to take it apart and clean it :)

A few questions:

1.  Any way to make the mags drop free?

2.  On the two rear sights, there is a dot of white in each little indentation, is there supposed to be on the front sight also?  I think they may have forgotten to paint my front sight, no big deal though, I can fix that in 2 seconds with some paint.  Plus I think I would want to make the front sight a different color for some contrast anyway.

3.  Will dry firing damage the gun?

I am also in Florida, but the three day waiting period is federal. Also, in Florida, with a concealed carry permit, there is no wait at all.  The last handgun I purchased took me 20 minutes and I left with it the same 1/2 hour.
Please enjoy your 97 Alex.  Its one of the best.  Give us a full range report.

I guess I have had my permit for so long I forgot that there was a three day waiting period. I did not even know their was one because I have never waited for a pistol even before I had my permit I believe.

The 3 day waiting period is NOT federal.  In Texas you can walk in, drop your cash, and walk out with your gun (handgun or long gun).  If you have a CHL (CCW) then you skip the NICS check.  If you don't have a CHL, then you have to go through a NICS check that usually takes about 30 seconds.  Before I got my CHL, I never waited more than 2 minutes for the NICS check for any of my guns - after the CHL, even that is gone.

North Carolina doesn't have a waiting period either -- after you get your permit (one at a time) you can use it anytime over the next 5 years.   When I used to do that, I'd get several at a time, and have them in my wallet.

BUT!!!  The changed the law.

Now, if you have a concealed carry permit, you can just buy when you want. In state.  No limits.  Just fill out the yellow form (4473?) pay your money, and go.

Is it not still the case that if you buy three handguns at once, it gets reported to the ATF in all states.

I think if its more than two in a week's time, the dealer must do extra paperwork.  One of the FFLs participating here will have to tell us whether that extra paperwork must be immediately sent to the ATF.

Shot my 97 today for the first time, this gun is great!  I only had time to put 50 rounds downrange, but I had no malfunctions or problems and I got really nice groups.  Recoil was less than I thought it would be for a .45.  The gun is definitely more accurate than I am :lol
