Hanging up a little
« on: May 22, 2011, 09:27:23 PM »
My new 75 is almost out of its break in period but sometimes it seems to want to hang up and wants to, but doesn't,  give a FTF. It does go into battery but it seems to occasionally have a little dwell, lasting about a second or two, when it starts to feed out of the mag. Will this go away after a few more rounds or do I need to do something? My other CZ has not had this problem. I was using S&B and Dynamit Nobel ammo today so I know its not a problem with underpowered ammo. In the past when I used Remington FMJ it did give many FTFs where I could tap the slide and it would go into battery.

I think it has to be one of three problems. A magazine problem, a weak recoil spring, or an extractor problem. Does it do it with all magazines? I think a weak recoil spring is unlikely. I would look to the extractor. Check for burrs, or the space between the extractor hook and the breech face. Anything that would keep the fresh round from sliding up under the extractor. Get some dummy rounds and run it slow and try to see what it is doing.

I used some snap caps and the hang is before the round even comes in contact with the extractor. When I place a VERY light tap on the back of the slide it slams home. Sometimes I can hit the base of the mag and it will also go home. I have definately more than adequate extraction and ejection so would a 16lb recoil spring help with this condition?

Make sure the slide rails are lubed.

I would check each individual mag.

Sounds like a rough chamber, maybe even .0005-.001" undersized.  Pretty easy to fix.  Also make certain the extractor spring is a stock CZ, not a +power.

The round hasn't even reached the chamber or touched the extractor yet, it is hanging while still on the feed ramp which has a very good finish on it. The whole pistol is very well lubed which is why I am thinking I may need a slightly stronger recoil spring, maybe.... ???

Yes, it does it with both mags.

It shouldn't need a 16# recoil spring  to cycle properly sized cartridges like you've tried.  14# is stock for the 9mm B.
You insinuated the ejected cases were being thrown a looooong ways---true?   If so, possibly the spring isn't the correct weight or has a defect.  I've not heard of this happening before now.

If you don't have another  recoil spring handy you can do a kind of 'hokey' but simple test.   This is a "dry fire" test:  Shim the front end of your recoil spring about 1/4" or so.  Cut off  1/4" of a dowel with a diameter slightly larger than your spring diameter and insert it into the front end where the spring rides---it needs to be a loose fit  :).  You could also use washers or a 'whittled down' piece of wood.  This will increase the spring weight to check for proper feed using your snap-caps.   If the pistol feeds, I'm not sure this tells you 'why' it isn't feeding.   It sure sounds like something hanging up or a 'bad' recoil spring.

You could call CZ and they might send you a new "stock" recoil spring based on what you find out with this test.

Good luck.

you can try removing the recoil spring and guide rod, reassamble and see  how well the slide moves and barrel go into battery.  other then that, id be calling CZ.
