Light strikes with CZ Kadet conversion kit..
« on: June 07, 2011, 02:21:48 AM »
Hey all,

I've done searching, but I guess my issue hasn't been addressed completely, so I figured I'd ask. :)

Just got my Kadet conversion kit today, filed it to fit on my CZ Shadow Custom, and took it to the range with my CCI Blazer 22LR rounds. Had all kinds of light strikes, maybe 4 out of 10 rounds would light strike. I would alway be able to DA shoot them again, though, so no failures to fire (eventually).

I was prepared for this to happen, and installed a 16lb mainspring (Shadow Custom comes with the 13lb mainspring). With the 16lb mainspring, I'm still having on average 3 out of 20 light strikes with the Blazer ammo. Any ideas what's going on here? This ammo fires flawlessly with my M&P 15-22 and Browning Buck Mark...

Thanks, all!

Just ordered a 17# and an 18# mainspring (just in case) from Wolff. Hopefully this solves the issue. Thanks :)

In all my goofing around with my kadet ( used it for state/regional steel challenge matches) I would get the occasional light strikes with a 16# spring. So I ended up running the 17# spring. I gave up about a .25# on my trigger, over the course of shooting several thousand rounds that in matches and practice that summer I did not have a misfire after going to the 17# spring.

I ran a mix of Fed/WIN/REM for practice and CCI green tag for matches. Also shot some mini mags, etc for fun stuff too.

That's good to hear. Just frustrating that CZ's Custom Shop kept telling me a 16lb mainspring would be fine, so I ordered that from them, and now it *appears* the 17lb will be key. So I have that ordered, and will report back. There's no question the 16lb was a lot more consistent than the 13lb on my CZ Shadow Custom, though. Hopefully the 17lb will be the real key. :)

As much as I wanted to stay with a 15# or 16#, I would get the 1 out of 25-30 that would be a light strike. Very frustrating when shooting steel, so 17# gave me that magic 100% rate that I was looking for.

Hope you're right! Will update when I get to test the new mainspring. :)

I have the Wolff hammer tuning spring pak on the way. 16,17,18,and 19#. Will go right to the 17# as suggested. I'm not having light strike issues but stovepipe issues with regular velocity ammo of all types. Higher velocity no problem. Will probably cut a coil or 2 off the recoil spring as well. With 2 lighter springs it should cycle faster.

Got my Wolff mainsprings springs today, the 17# and 18#. Tried my Shadow Custom with the Kadet + 17# mainspring, and still had a few failures to fire. Not many. Sometimes it would go 50 rounds without a failure, and then I'd have two failures in one mag. Just... bizarre.

Anyway, it's probably about as good as it's going to get, I'd guess, though I'll try the 18# on my next outing... I'd say fire rate is around 95% at this point.

I've probably put a 2 or 3 bricks of Blazers through my Kadet kit.  I've had 2 or 3 rds not fire, they weren't light strikes either.  Mine has the springs it came with.  (FWIW, its fitted to a 75 BD)
Did you pull it apart & clean out the packing goo?  Mine was pretty messy upon arrival, I could see it gumming up the works.
Cheers,
Greg

Am far from an expert on these matters.

A few weeks ago I also began to get light strikes with my KK.  They went away once I disassembled and throughly cleaned my firing pin assembly. I took care to not introduce any oil when I reassembled it to minimize its crud gathering properties.  My KK is completely stock and use it on my P-01 and 75D compact.

I use Federal Bulk ammo, and perhaps get 1 or 2 FTF per box, and they usually fire if I remove, rotate and retry.  If I use premium .22 ammo, I have no problems. Hope this helps!

My Kated, mounted on an SP01 frame, running 16lb hammer/main spring & using CCI Standard Velocity .22 ammo is 100% reliable.

Once you have moved to 16-17lb hammer/main spring, look at the reliability of the ammo. Remember .22 ammo in any handgun, is a mix & match puzzle for best results.

Cheers, Ando.

What is the standard main spring (hammer spring) weight for the 75B?  Is ist 16 or 17 lbs?

I've run a 15 lb in my 85b with the Kadett Kit, averaging one FTF every other mag or so.  No worry.  They always fire with a second strike.  Good training.

I second the previous post that the sensitivity of .22 LR varies dramatically.
