I've only tried Mec-Gar in my 97B but have Promags for my PCR, I've never had a problem with any of them. The Mec-Gars may have a slightly better reputation but seem a little more expensive as well.

Thanks. I guess where I was going with that was trying to figure out if the ProMag magazines for the 97B would potentially have slightly different physical fit characteristics (e.g. seat more deeply, fit flush with the end of the mag well).

I can always buy one and find out, but I'm trying to be cheap and see if anyone has already done that. :)

If the prices are close, Mec-Gar makes a better mag.  Pro-Mags are good enough, but in the first year or two, any savings in purchase price will likely be offset by having to replace the springs.   (Pro-Mags are notorious for having weak springs.)

I buy Pro-Mags, but never when there's a Mec-Gar available for just a few dollars more.

Mec-Gars are without question the best mags money can buy for non-1911 guns.  (They are also the factory mags for Witness and CZ .45s, and most of the CZ line.  Along with being the OEM maker of many major gun mags...)

I guess I have a different opinion to the majority on this.  I have tried Pro-Mags in my 75B and a Ruger.  I will never buy them again.  They were a complete waste.  Life is just too short to piss around with crappy ammo or crappy mags just to save a few dollars.   I eventually threw the Pro-Mags away.

Mec-Gar is the only non-OEM mags I will even consider, because Mec-Gar actually is the OEM for quite a few manufacturers.  The Mec-gars for the Witness .45 are **IDENTICAL** to the 97B mags and work perfectly.

CDNN and Arizonagunrunners usually have them for about $14 !

Ditto the above.

With the notable exception of the Compact .40 mags recently purchased from Midwest Tactical, I have had TERRIBLE experiences with Pro-Mags.  For example, the Pro-Mags marketed as FEG GKK magazines would not fit the grip frame of my pistol.  They didn't even come close!

FEG brings up a point.

I've had good luck with Pro-Mags in full-size 75Bs, in my 85 Combat, in my Compacts, and in my 75B SA.  I've also had good service from them in S&W 669s, in Berettas (92 Vertec), and in a Kel-Tec P-11, which accepted 15-round S&W Model 59 mags.  Some of my friends have had good service from Pro-Mags in their SIGs.

Others, shooting other guns have had horrible experiences.

It really depends on the specific model of gun.  Pro-Mag seems to know how to do it right for some guns, but not others.  (Their mags for Lugers are horrid; Mec-Gars are the only ones I've found that work as they should in a Luger.)

Having said all of this (and it's all good feedback, btw) - has anyone specifically tried the ProMags in the CZ97B, and if so did the mags sit any differently in the firearm than the Mecgars?

I bought a couple of MecGars months ago and they are identical in design and function to my factory CZ 97 mags.  I don't have any experience with ProMags at all, and haven't heard of any friends who had good or bad experiences with them.

Yes I bought (3) Promag's for my CZ97B, worst investment I ever made.  I sent them back twice and they still don't work correctly.  To one and all stick with the Mecgar's they are the best.

ditto, got a promag for the 97b to test out... It is now my  bullet loader for competition... I just don't trust it and personally won't buy another one.

On my new 97b, out of the box, the mags that came with it say mec-gar.
Good enough for me.
I have had bad luck with pro mags, the fit just isn't right, the reliability isn't there, and they just reek of poor quality.
The mec-gars on the other hand, I am yet to have problem #1 with.
That's worth more than a few dollars to me.
