I just read the last 6 pages of posts and haven't found anything regarding the subject besides night sights so here goes.  My father in law is having a hard time picking up the small sights on the 97 and would like to get them replaced.  Are there any type of bomar style adjustable sights out there that will fit this gun.  He can pick up the bomar style sights much better.  I don't ask how?  Any help would be appreciated.

The LPA adjustable is a mediocre sight compared to the Bomar.  (I've had both, and much prefer the Bomars.)

Bomar requires its own proprieatry dovetail cut.  The gun is typically fit to the sight rather than vice versa.

If your F-I-L lights BOMARS, he should just spring for a set and have them installed on the 97B.

A local gunsmith can probably get and install them for under $100...   (You may not need a new front sight.)

Walt - Do you have a picture of 97B having a Bomar Adj. sight on it? Just want to see because I haven't seen one yet.

     Here's mine with the LPA.

I have a Bomar on an AT-84S, and Milletts on a Browning Hi-Power, but nothing on a 97B.  (Traded my 97B away a while back.)   I have the LPAs on an 85 Combat and my Kadet Kit, and had them -- wearing the Mec-Gar brand -- on a 1911A1.

I think the EAA Witness Supersights are better than the LPAs.  All of these sights have "click" adjustments that are noticeable, with predictable results as you turn the controls; I don't find that to be the case with the LPAs.

Here's a picture (not taken for that type of detail) of the Bomars and Supersights, from an earlier set I uploaded to Eric's website.

The LPAs are better than nothing, but have a reputation for being a bit on the fragile side.  I don't know whether that reputation is deserved or not, but I don't particularly like them.

Walt ,

I think this kind of LPA sight is being used on SIG P210s (very expensive pistol) and HK USP Tactical (with HK name on them). If they are good for nothing, these companies will not use them.

Anyway , I guess it will just depend on the end user . I like Bomars, actually some of my 1911 type pistols have them, they're really handsome.;)

Hermo;

I like the LPA adjustable sights on your 97B also. Did you have to change your front sight too?

Perhaps the LPA you're using is different than the ones I'm familiar with.  I can't tell from the photo.

My P-210s didn't have adjustable sights, and the one I've shot that did  -- a 210-5 (Olympic Target model)  had an adjustable, but its wasn't at all like the LPA.  I've had LPAs on three different guns.

The reason I don't like the LPAs -- which are standard on the 85 Combat and the Kadet kit -- is that they aren't very precise.  And they don't offer the best sight picture.  (The LPA on the CZ-85 Combat  and Kadet offers a sight picture that isn't that much better than the standard fixed sights.)

Bomars are considered one of the best.  I've got them on a S&W and a AT-84S, and I've just installed Milletts on a Browning Hi-Power (pronounced Mil-lay). I also have an EAA Supersight on a Witness Sport Long Slide, and its a lot like the Bomar.

These sights all have a "click" adjustment that let you know exactly how much you've changed the sight elevation when you're working the controls.  When  you're trying sight in a gun, the CLICKS make it much easier to adjust the sight precisely.

Try a Bomar or a Millett and given a choice, you'll not go back to the LPAs.  Both of these sights, however, will require a new dovetail cut in your gun, which raises the price.

That said, I picked up my Milletts from Gun Parts Corp for $24.95 (front and rear sight), and had them installed for $35.  That beats the purchase price of the LPA.  You'd not even have to have the front sight installed...

Thank you guys.

I got my LPA sight at a local dealer in the Phils. , the LPA packaging says that it's for CZ pistol but comparing it to my friend's CZ85 adj. sight , the thing is totally different. It looks similar to Hk's adjustable sight. The blade is almost the same as Bomar, price is cheaper though.

The package came with a taller front sight but I did not replace the original one. On my pistol however , the rear sight's blade must be adjusted at the lowest elevation to make the POA (Point of Aim) coincide with the POI (point of Impact). Pistol may vary at this point.:)
