This gun was refinished in my kitchen with Mark Lee Express Blue #1. I stripped it with Jasco Premium, polished the slide with 400 grit wet paper, degreased the hell out of it with denatured alcohol, and blued it over a period of a couple of days.
There is still some touch up work to do, but the gun is essentially finished. I was hoping for a little better result, but I just don't think there is any improving on what I have done. If I had it to do over again, I would not have polished the slide, as the polished surfaces started to show unevenness once I was 5 treatments in. I suspect it has to do with the metallurgy of the gun, as I polished it again to remove the bluing and tried to do an even more meticulous job to no avail.
I need to take it partially apart and hit it with steel wool one more time to even things up a bit more. I also need to repaint the sights and hit a couple of the pins with cold blue. Then, I will consider this gun finished. In any case, it looks a million times better than it did.
