Stripper Clips
« on: September 21, 2011, 05:56:10 PM »
I've read on the board that stripper clips for the AK & SKS can be used for the VZ58, but the clips for the 58 work better. Any experience on this from you KI's (Knowledgeable Individuals)??  If this is correct where does one obtain some?

There are no VZ specific stripper clips. They use standard SKS clips. Make sure they're inserted correctly and they work just fine.

I've got about 50 pounds of Czech strippers.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've enjoyed your postings & knowledgeable replies regarding what works and what works for you; ie - original folding stock, foam pipe insulation, and black electrical tape. I like the KISS method - works for me.

50 pounds might be a slight exaggeration. ;) But I do have over half a Czech ammo crate of them and that doesn't include a whole pile I sent to guys in the US. All the Czech ball in Canada comes on strippers, so if you buy a full wood case you either get 112 or 120 strippers, depending on when the ammo was made. I'm sure every garbage can on every range in Canada is full of them.

I've got through more than 10 cases of Czech ball, so that's a lot of strippers. I don't know why I keep them, but I can't bring myself to throw them out.  Especially considering that I have a good number of full cases stocked up.

If anyone wants some, just pay the postage and I'll send some out. Be advised, you're probably looking at $20-ish for a couple hundred clips to the US.

Gosh how about I give you 10 bucks for a hundred clips? That's about 1000 rounds which is more than I ever have at one time.

If you pm me your address, including zip code, I can get a postage quote for you. I seem to recall there was a minimum cost in the $15 range for a package that size, but that might just be the early-onset dementia.

If I only had 1k of 7.62x39 on hand I'd be twitching with anxiety, LOL! :)

I e-mailed Czechpoint & was told that the ones they sell were made specifically for the VZ58 & are not SKS. I've tried SKS clips & they work ok, but not great(even after breaking in).

How do they compare to the ones shipped with the gun? I was thinking about getting a bunch when I get the rifle, but the price seems a bit high

Sorry it took so long to reply. Not sure how they compare w/ the included clips as I didn't get any, but  I tried a few Czech clips that I got off of G.B. & unlike the SKS ones I loaded 2 w/ one solid push each(SKS usually took a few pushes, especially on the 2nd). There are VERY slight build differences between the two but it must make the difference for smoother loading, or so it seemed to me. There does appear to be less wobble in the fit of the Czech clips.

So you would recommend the pricey Czech stripper clips or modify the SKS ones?

Well, these were about 1/2 the price of the ones from Czechpoint @ $29 for 30 clips(shipped to me in WA state). The differences were so subtle that I don't see it as plausible trying to replicate them by modification of SKS clips. They did fit slightly more snug which must have made at least a partial difference in loading. I've somewhat tried breaking in the SKS ones but I know I was surprised by the improvement of how the 1st Czech ones loaded. I would buy them over the SKS clips but I won't be buying a bunch though(under 100). Here's the seller(out of Canada) but I'm not sure if he'll be re-listing more for sale. He was great to deal w/. - http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=300219138

Awesome man thanks a ton! Going to order some once I have moved since money is tight, these stripper clips sound a ton better then the SKS ones and will probably buy a lot from him. Either way thanks again for the info, its going to be great once I get my VZ58!
