CZ 1945 .25acp *UNFIRED* Like New
« on: September 24, 2011, 12:29:22 AM »
The previous owner claimed the CZ 1945 was unfired. I bought it off of a single non-detailed photograph and his word. I was preparing for the worst. I still don't know if he was right - but after seeing and handling this little beauty first-hand, I've got to believe he wasn't lying. This thing is mint.

I had planned on using this as an occasional range/fun gun. I'm sure it's up for the task, but it's not very often that I get to hold a 60+ year old (potentially unfired) pistol - which brings me to a couple of questions:

1. What would happen to the collector value of something like this if I maintain it well - but occasionally use it?
2. If I were to keep it as a safe queen, what steps should I take to protect it long-term and keep rust/corrosion/etc? away?

More photos in the PICS forum... :)

I was of two minds on this myself - I just purchased a rare Lufwaffe .32 for my wife to shoot that turned out to be unfired (ramp was even too rough to feed and blueing still on the end of the firing pin) I went back and forth for a few weeks and finally decided I bought it to shoot. It is a joy to shoot and likely will hold the value I paid for it. HOWEVER it will not be worth more that that which it likely would be if I had not shot the gun.

MY vote goes for SHOOT it!

When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

There are peculiar collectors who really prize unused objects, whether cars or guns or whatever.  I don't understand them.  Why have something you can never use?  It's like the family up the street who has a Living Room so special that it has never been used in the living memory of any of the kids who live in the house.  Their mom cleans it, but she doesn't even sit there when she wants to read quietly... it's too special for even her to use... and it is too special even for beloved grandparents.  Freakish.

I, personally, would never buy such an unfired gun.  Leave it for the collectors who will hide it away in their safe for another 60 years.  I buy guns that are used, and I use them.  They are cheaper, and there is no heartbreak when they get holster wear on their bluing.
