He guys been lurking for a bit and now I have something to add besides my intro on the welcome.
I have been into guns for as long as I can remember, and have had many still own a bunch and my taste have changed over and over over the years. I'd been a wheel gun guy for a while, a 45 guy for a while, and then it happened I finally bought a 9mm. Not just any but a Browning Hi-power. WOW what a difference. There I have been for the last 15+ years shooting my beloved BHP. It has been the best pistol I've ever owned. SO much so that even though I have looked at others like the HK p7M8 or P30 , or one of the CZ 75's I have gotten the feeling I was cheating on my Hi Power. It isn't to say I didn't look at others I just tried to stay away. Well Gun Broker is going to kill me. I decided if a great deal came along for a CZ75/Tanfoglio or other clone showed up for little money I'd give it a try. Well it happen I found a guy selling a beat up TA90 and I stole his pictures for this post. I will post post some of mine when I get a chance. As with just about anything I buy the first thing I do is take it all a part and either break or loose something well guess what.
The rear sight "Seemed" to be bent down so far as the hammer seemed not to clear and I'd have to apply a bit of force with my thumb to have it fall the rest of the way forward. No big deal take out the two set crews and drive it off with a punch right? My bench is set up for reloading so not the best for smithing but hey I can't wait. I back the screws out get a wood block, punch and hammer tapping first from right to left and then left to right. Gingerly not all thor and all. After a bit I try a bit harder and then harder then I stop and go to the net. A read a post about leaving the original sights are a PITA to remove?? OK it looks like it just needs to be bent back out of the way the slightest amount so what the hell I tap it and when I say tap I mean tap it from the bottom of the sight and the Bitch breaks right then and there. A few choice words later I pick up my broken parts and say ok looks like I'm buying a new rear sight. Then think maybe up grade! But being cheap I then knocked the dovetail out and it slide like a breeze WTH. So now I have the two pieces and I'm looking on the net hopefully for a used rear and no luck. I see new rears even one that says original over at Henning but its hard to tell if its the same. Also my front sight seems to go on and off left to right also where the Henning's front looks like it is removed back to front? If this was some rare variant rear sight that was worth $$$$ more then the gun b/c of the rear sight please keep that to yourself I feel bad enough already.
Also looking on here a bit I don't see one like it either. Is it possible it isn't original? Possible they had bent that low intentionally so as to shoot higher for longer distances? It is hard to read the markings from the pictures but the left side of the slide says:
FRATELLI TANFOGLIO SpA GARDONE V.T. ITALY
MOD. TA 90 CAL. 9mm PARABELLUM
The left side of the frame under the slide has
CAI Georgia VTCOMBAT SHOOTING
COHAIThe right side has the serial number AB016XX on the frame slide and barrel.
So anyone recognize the rear sight? Anyone have a take off for sale? I brazed the rear sight back together in my garage not bad it should hold for a while (fingers crossed) have to get to the range and see how this does. The trigger seems smooth, It is a bit far forward for my hand and I've looked at some replacements too. I have been looking and researching for a while as it took near two weeks for this to get here.
Anyway look at these pictures and I'll do some of my own when I've time and the suns out.
(I should add that the guy I bought it from was a great seller and hope he is ok with me using his photos they have is water mark so he is getting credit and all. I'll take them down if anyone objects.)
