Hopefully it will work out well.

Mine was just delivered yesterday. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. My plastic one was bowed, so I just felt more comfortable replacing it with the aluminum one.  It was only $18.

Get some rounds downrange and report back.  I've been eyeing one myself and since YOU dropped the cash....I'll wait for the report before ordering.

I'm heading to the range on Tuesday.  Is there something specific you want me to be paying close attention so I can report back with some feedback?  I'll be taking the polymer guide rod along and comparing between the two.

CZ-USA web store.  As far as wear...unknown.  No rds through the pistol yet with it to tell. :)

Palumbo,
I'm just curious as to wear issues relating to the steel spring moving back and forth on the aluminum rod.  I had a bad experience, albeit with a different make of pistol, with the metal of the guide rod not liking the metal of the spring interacting with it.  It began to gall so frequently/severely that the weapon could no longer be counted on.  I can see no such likelihood with the polymer rod, I'm just a little worried about the "head" of the guide rod detaching from the rod itself. (probably never happen...I know, but even LESS likely to happen with aluminum I'm thinking)

If the rod is made from a HARD aluminum alloy and anodized, which it likely is, it should last as long as the pistol. All that is needed is a light coating of oil.

500 rds yesterday, aluminum guide rode, stock spring...no signs of wear/damage on spring, guide rod, or frame.  So far so good.

What is the benefit of a steel or aluminum guide rod or is it just for peace of mind for those that don't trust the polymer guide rod to hold up? Mine has some bowing in it but I assumed that was natural since it's been like that since I bought the pistol brand new.

I could see the plstic guide rod being broken if it gets dropped on its face with the slide racked.. a freak accident scenario, but it could still happen.
