My Gun Box
« on: December 04, 2011, 12:57:22 AM »
A looong time ago , in a land far away in N.TX, I used to shoot Bullseye .22 pistol.
Just wanted to show a pic of the box I made to carry to the range.  I used to think about trying to market some, but not many want 'boxes' now-a-days.

Bbl tightening knob and cleaning rod handle are made from deer antler.
The combo-locks came off an old G.I. Briefcase.
The top also had a small scope & mount, I gave to my son along with a better grade box for his MKII.
High Standard pistol I bought in the early 70's with  trigger & mods by an old man who lived in a trailer outside of town.
Pistol was $112 and really more than we could afford.

Very nice. Best I have seen. As a carpenter you are making me slightly guilty about the basic ply box I am slowly building for a rifle. But hey, I might make a nicer one after seeing yours.

You have done a truly excellent job. Thank you for sharing.
A good shot at close range beats a 'hit' at a longer range.

Very nice.  And definitely from a by-gone era.  I remember seeing some Bullseye shooters with boxes with slide out trays to hold their 3 guns, accesories, ammo and scope. Yours looks nicer/better organized than most.

Awesome!
I hope it is NOT from a bye gone era, the era of the craftsman ( no not some sears sales pitch).

This is some of the reasons I love the CZ firearms they have the feel that someone who truly cares about their craft builds them. I built a gun box back in high school ( back when you could bring your guns to school), glued and screwed and stained and hinged. Still have it today. My fondest hope is that there are more kids out there today building these to have forever.

Puts my old Pachmayr range box to shame

I know that's not really true.  I could only afford one pistol and the 'bricks' of Fed target, and sure couldn't afford a Pachmayr shooting box;  so I made one for what I needed.  The guys and gals that could afford the pistols had the Pachmayr box.
You can't see the two allen wrenches next to the screwdrivers (they've been updated by 'Sears")  in the tool rack.  The ammo storage will hold 400 rds. securely in any boxes of 100 or 50.  The handle on top of the box rests on the shooting bench.  When opened from left to right, the pistol and scope is pointed at the target.  The scope attached inside the top/front and was clipped to the to the top edge of the opened box.

Nostalgia is a symptom of age I guess, but I really enjoyed shooting with the people I shot with every week.  I still do now, but not bullseye.

Like some said,  I hope my son and my granddaughters can feel the same way when they remember back when.

SOW:
My Pachmayr box was bought used and took several weeks to come-up with all the needed cash (lay-away is a wonderful thing)
Still, it?s not as sweat as your box
Your box is really something
The magazine, tool and ammo storage areas.....Workmanship....Perfection
I know your son and his family will feel so much pride walking into the range with "Grandad's Range Box"
