CC tomorrow
« on: December 04, 2011, 08:53:20 PM »
Hi,

I've been thinking about it for over a year, target shooting at least once a week. I'm comfortable with the safety, pistol function, holster, and my knowledge of the law.

Any recommendations for my first day of concealed carry with my 75B 9mm tomorrow?

Make sure you know your laws, state and local. If you have a statute that says inadvertant exposure is illegal, be careful. Most likely of all, you will feel like everybody and thier brother can see you are armed, and everyone with a cell phone is calling the cops. Relax, 99% of people out there aren't looking at you, they're looking through you, and have no clue what you're doing. To the other 1%, if they see any lump, they'll almost automatically assume it's a cell phone, IPAD, etc.
You'll get used to it. 8)

I also started carrying in the wintertime.  Now that I look back on it, It was good for me.  With the extra clothing, printing was not an issue like it would be during the summer.  That allowed me to get used to the carrying part before printing or the other "easily noticeable" issues came along during springtime.

Thanks for the comments.

Starting to CC in cooler weather was part of what lowered by concern over exposure.

The other thing I want to do is get the feel of carrying a large pistol like the 75B.

1SOW, that was a judges' comment during a trial over a shootout in Miami years ago! he asked the officer if the individual had a colostomy bag, would he be charged with possession of a disgusting weapon.

Interesting that you bring up the colostomy bag. Read on.

OK. Here are my thoughts after I carried CC for the first time today. No problem sitting in the car or walking around at Home Depot. It was comfortable, although I did keep pulling down my sweatshirt because I could feel that the barrel was inching below the bottom by about an inch, I estimate.

Reaching for my wallet at the McDonald's drive-up was not a problem. Seat belt, no problem.

However, at the Home Depot john there was a problem. The pistol bent over, but didn't fall out of the holster. Can you imagine the mess that would have been? Pulling up and rebelting my pants was a pain.

At home, no problem working at the computer. It was comfortable with the holster at about the 3:30 to 4 position. But getting up and down and bending made the sweatshirt ride up. I was constantly pulling it down.

Overall, I was pleased with the concealment, and felt comfortable (not conspicuous), but at home I felt funny. Thinking, "Is this really necessary?" So, at 5 PM I removed the pistol and holster and put it  back in the nightstand. I'll do it again tomorrow, although it might be a problem because I have a doctor's appointment and will have to remove the holster before entering the clinic. Unbuckling, storing it in the glove compartment, rebuckling, and then reattaching to the belt after the doctor visit seem like a lot of effort.

Maybe the holster should sit higher on my waist or maybe a RAMI would be better? Or maybe over time I'll adjust and carry the 75B without much thought to it.

Overall, a good day.

Out of curiosity what are you carrying and what kind of holster are you using?

Also might want to consider getting a lockbock that you can lock down in the vehicle with a cable.  That way when you have to leave it in you vehicle it will be secure.

I carry a CZ 75B 9mm. It's the one in the photo on the left.
length: 8.1 inch
height: 5.4 inch
width: 1.4 inch

The RAMI is
length: 6.5 inch
height: 4.7 inch
width: 1.25 inch

My holster is leather OWB, which I got for $40 at a local gun show. It holds the pistol securely, cants forward, and feels comfortable. I hate to get into the buying routine leading to a dozen holsters.

Yes, getting a lock box will be necessary. But the bigger issue is the cumbersome removal and reattachment. Is there a good box for a glove compartment?

My holster uses a  clip that allows holster and pistol to be removed easily.  The bigger pistol might require "two clips" to keep it secure.  The clips are available on many holsters and can be over-the-belt or over the belt and pants or IWB like mine.  Your vehicle can have a 'mount' on the seat side (or where-ever) and the same holster can be mounted there.

I think a holster with clips might be the answer. This morning I positioned my holster further back and it was uncomfortable in the car. I also like the idea of holstering the pistol off my body when I'm in the car.

Any recommendations for clips or a holster with clips?

Finally settled on IWB HBE com II with clips for my CC.   Also don't know about the rest of hte US but in MN it is kind of customary to do a strole through the nearest Wally World since they have the best ammo prices around.  'course once you start reloading that no longer matters :)  Enjoy.

BTW the only time I carry is when I am awake.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

CZ CCW- HOLSTERS & ACCESSORIES

Use the search function for "type of holster" you want info on.
The majority of the big name holster makers offer OWB/IWB with clips.
Galco is just one where you can match types to your pistol.  www.usgalco.com/

They have a simple inexpensive IWB - Xdraw that I've been looking at for my Sig 239.
With a smaller pistol the X-draw lets me sit/bend/drive & have access/ run/whatever.

Don't laugh!  One thing I had that let try a lot of different carries is a the simple small Uncle Mikes Nylon from Academy Sporting Goods for less than $10.
It has mag-holder, belt loop, a clip and is reversible.  It gives you the means to "test" different carry positions and draw styles OWB and IWB..  the dern thing actually works with many different size pistols.
